WCHA Thread III

Re: WCHA Thread III

Manitoba would be the Bisons that play in the Western CIS loop. Incoming UMD player Lacquette played there at the start of last season. CIS teams are typically on par with the top PWHL teams. Top end CIS teams (eg McGill or Alberta) are D1 caliber. The Manitoba Bisons tend to be stronger than average in the CIS, so what ND did tonight is impressive.
The Sioux score a bunch in the rematch as well with widespread contributions. Clearly a big jump in depth over last season for the Sioux.

This is not a comment on UND who have been improving the last few years (and maybe this is their "quantum leap" year)...but the U of M is extremely painful to watch and have been that way for years. If this year's edition is anything like the last few, it's enough to turn you off of women's hockey. They would struggle, to put it diplomatically, against a half decent AA team.

So,this result certainly comes as no surprise.

That's Manitoba I'm assuming? Like I said...I don't know anything about them, but your opinion is quite a bit different than another I read in the forum regarding Manitoba. Now I don't know who to believe. :)

Where the hell is Manitoba? Your opinion is what about Manitoba?

Re: WCHA Thread III

That's easy...Paris.

Still having great difficulty with thread topics. I think you've had enough to drink, and smoke tonight. Best put the intoxicants down.

Goodness.......are you ok? I'm concerned.....really........well not really...goodnight. :)

What the heck are you talking about?. The U of M Bisons are an upper half CIS team or better over the last five years, and would beat most AA teams handily. They have been to the CIS championships at least twice in the last four years. A couple of years ago the Bisons won the CIS west, beating a very good Panda team in the finals in OT, and they then proceeded to medal at the CIS championships.

Definitely some tough games to call this coming weekend. But if I were to guess:

Providence @ Bemidji State SPLIT

North Dakota @ Boston University SPLIT

Lindenwood @ Minnesota State MSU SWEEP

Syracuse vs. St. Cloud State SYRACUSE SWEEP

Union @ Minnesota MINNESOTA SWEEP!

Minn Whitecaps @ Minnesota-Duluth UMD SWEEP

Not possible, because the games at the East/West Showcase are:

Friday
Syracuse vs. St. Cloud State
Union @ Minnesota

Saturday
Union vs. St. Cloud State
Syracuse@ Minnesota

Because Syracuse and Minnesota meet on Saturday, they can't both sweep.

 is right! ;) Change my predictions to:

Friday
Syracuse vs. St. Cloud State Syracuse wins!
Union @ Minnesota Minnesota wins!

Saturday
Union vs. St. Cloud State St. Cloud State wins!
Syracuse@ Minnesota Minnesota wins!

Sounds great if you say it fast enough...but it's all relative. I watched that series where they beat the Pandas to win the CIS West a couple of years ago and while I was happy for the players and their success...objectively speaking, watching that quality of hockey was like sandpapering your retinas.

Such "success" is, as I mentioned, all relative. And it certainly doesn't come close to putting them in the same league, ability wise, as most of the better D-1 teams...especially most of the
WCHA teams.

I have watched several U of M games in the last several years and have always been extremely underwhelmed.

I agree with Blackbeard. Last season, SCSU was bad, worse than one usually sees in the WCHA. But they tied Manitoba, and based on the box score and watching each team play, I'd guess the Bisons' goalie stole that point.
