WCHA Playoff Predictions

Re: WCHA Playoff Predictions

No, we aren't. If you had joined more than a month ago, you might understand that we get plenty of respect where it's earned. You'd positively have the vapors about how the CCHA posters treated us.

UNO has done well, without all-star players. I think that makes the Blais COTY argument compelling, but it doesn't mean we're being "disrespected" when individual player's numbers justify placement on the all-WCHA first team.

Leading the country in shutouts and finishing eighth or ninth in SV% and GAA means you're not terribly consistent. The all-WCHA goalies play for teams that KNOW if they score 3 goals they're very likely to win.

Please stop with the martyrdom. UNO's results speak for themselves. Argue the facts, not your persecution complex. People have better things to do.

You must spread rep around, blah, blah, blah

Listen, Rick, it's hard to argue with you on this. I totally agree with you about the "all star players argument". We really haven't had one in awhile, either. An "all star player", I mean. However, I do think Faulkner merits more props than he is getting. My contention is that Faulkner leads the nation in shutouts DESPITE his supporting cast, not because of them. Seriously, I think, other than one goal, that his performance on Friday night in Duluth, was the best game I have seen out of him this season, and we got punked. We should have gotten beat far worse than we were. The UMD fans around me thought he was magnificent and we lost the game.

I submit that Faulkner could not have had the save percentage he had or the GAA he had, while leading the nation in shutouts unless he was doing/did something special this season.

We're getting dissed by WCHA posters here because we are the new kids on the block and they are P.O.'ed that we had the nerve to finish 3rd in "their" league. I really don't think I am being "Mr. Martyr". I think I am more being huffy UNO fan that is fed up with all this crap. If we get punked in the WCHA tournament, so be it. Frankly, I care more about the NCAA tournament. I saw an interesting article this weekend from North Dakota quoting Coach Blais from years ago where he said he wished that his ND teams had not shot their wad in league play or in the WCHA tournament, which he says requires Herculean efforts to win. He'd rather his teams had "saved" themselves for the NCAA tournament. That from a coach that has won a couple national titles.

I am respectful of the other teams in our league.

I don't see how when I joined this forum is relevant, however, since I have had UNO season tickets for over a decade.

I'm your friend, not your enemy.

They are not getting "dissed", and most aren't trying to "dis" you. It just seems that way because in an effort to not repeat ourselves too often, we have to explain things in an increasingly short and contrite manner.

Um, can you repeat the part of the stuff where you said all about the...things? Uh... the things? I'm ****ed I couldn't find this on You Tube

And seriously, did you just use the word punked twice in one post?

Re: WCHA Playoff Predictions

Is this Red Cows guy for real? Seriously, who started a second account so they could **** with us?

Placing Faulkner on the 3rd team shows zero disrespect for UNO, regardless of when they joined the WCHA. Goalies from Wisconsin, CC, etc..., didn't get named by anyone, and they've been in the league a lot longer.

Faulkner was listed as a 3rd teamer because, at best, he had the 3rd best year as a goaltender in the league this year.

You keep going back to shutouts. He had 4 in league play this year, in 4 different series. And he was horrible in the other 4 games of those series. He'd shut someone out, but it would either precede or follow a game in which he consistently gave up 4-5 goals.

That was, and is, the rap on Faulkner -- lack of consistency. I suspect Blais would tell you the same thing.

One of the things I think voters should look at is whether a goaltender gave his team a chance to win every night. Getting the shutout is great, but it is absolutely clear that if a team gives up 2 goals or less in a game, they have a great chance of winning. They give up 3 and they're in the hunt for a win, but you're going to lose some too. You start giving up 4 or more and you put a lot of pressure on your offense to try to outscore the other team.

I suspect that if you check, both Dell and Patterson had fewer games than Faulkner where they gave up 4 or more goals, and, conversely, had more games in the 0-2 gaa range. Just a hunch.

Re: WCHA Playoff Predictions

I just dug out my playoff crystal ball out, dusted it off, placed it on it's special pedestal and had a brief moment of silence. When I looked inside low and behold it showed the young team from Houghton winning the whole enchilada. Stay tuned for more gripping predictions we progress through the second season.

I hope your crystal ball is still under warranty.
