Dear Red Cows,
Please do us a favor and skip the whole "no one respects us" bit.

Sincerely,
gopher wes

It was one person's PREDICTION of what MIGHT happen in the upcoming WCHA playoffs. Don't have a hissy fit.....

Sorry, but we are a bit touchy about this around here. Me included.

I think UNO has gotten some short shrift this season. It's O.K., we are the new kids on the block and I understand some of that.

Take a look at the hypothetical WCHA awards post on this board or on some college hockey web sites if you don't think that's true. Even though we finished 3rd in the league and are currently 6th in Pairwise, you'd think that Coach Blais went out there and took all those teams on by himself this year.

Worse, take a look at Pairwise itself. Is there another team in the country whose Pairwise ranking is as out of sorts with their poll ranking as UNO's is? Not that I see.

I think we were just being dismissed in the hypothetical against SCSU because they are SCSU and were top 5 ranked to start the season and we are UNO and were picked to finish 8th or 9th in the WCHA this season. Never mind the fact that so far this season, they pretty much laid eggs when they played us.

I readily acknowledge the playoffs are a "different thing". That said, the only thing I have to go on to judge the two teams is by what DID transpire between the two this year. If SCSU found some magic UNO elixir since we saw them last, bring it on. I am sure Coach Blais will have UNO ready for what's upcoming. He didn't just fall off a turnip truck.

FYI, I don't hate SCSU, either. It's my mom's alma mater and my uncle played hockey for SCSU in '47-'48.

Who should have made an all-WCHA team from your team? Your best forward put up 13-12-15. That's good, but its not good enough to make all-conference. Frattin, both Connollys, Zucker, Shore, Gregoire, Fontaine, J. Schwartz, Roe, LeBlanc, know what they all have in common? A point per game or more in conference games. Broadhurst was the only Maverick to do that and he, nor Ambroz, nor any other forward for UNO deserved to make it.

We're almost all conceeding Olimb as a 2nd team nominee, is he somehow getting jobbed there?

I think that there are four goalies that could legitimately receive votes for all-WCHA this time around; Patterson, Dell, Brittain and Faulkner. So just looking at those four, he's last in save percentage, last in goals against average, last in winning percentage. So explain to me how he deserves to be ahead of ANY of them, as you claim to be willing to listen to people and make arguments. And yes, he did have the most shutouts. That tells me that he was inconsistent. Know who was second in conference shutouts? Joe Howe, and he didn't have a good year either. Faulkner had four in conference play, more than the other three combined. But he still wasn't better overall in between the pipes than any of them.

That was my point though. It is a hypothetical matchup that a couple people have predicted. I'm not quite sure how that translates into people dismissing your team...?

Re: WCHA Playoff Predictions

I'm hoping for that too. Don't care if it's Friday or Saturday. But since Tech is going to upset UND, it doesn't matter
We know that you Sioux fans are experts at sandbagging, and it is a good thing that you're starting early, record floods forcasted this year.

No, we aren't. If you had joined more than a month ago, you might understand that we get plenty of respect where it's earned. You'd positively have the vapors about how the CCHA posters treated us.

UNO has done well, without all-star players. I think that makes the Blais COTY argument compelling, but it doesn't mean we're being "disrespected" when individual player's numbers don't justify placement on the all-WCHA first team.

Leading the country in shutouts and finishing eighth or ninth in SV% and GAA means you're not terribly consistent. The all-WCHA goalies play for teams that KNOW if they score 3 goals they're very likely to win.

Please stop with the martyrdom. UNO's results speak for themselves. Argue the facts, not your persecution complex. People have better things to do.
