Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I'm surprised the WCHA is allowing this series to happen. They should desperately want both of these teams to make it to the X.

Maybe they will allow 3 ties and send both teams.

they could change the format of the final five and claim it's practice for next years WCHA lineup

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

Or just don't allow Wisconsin to come. That would make everyone happy.

I'm in for that! I'd even cancel my trip that week if that happened. :)

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I'm hoping my DVR gets the right game tonight. FSN says it'll be on 658 on Direct TV tonight. My channel guide says nothing of the sort and says I don't even get that channel. I set it anyway. :( I'll be at the Xcel tonight watching the next generation of UND, Gopher, etc. stars.

Go Hornets!

I just grabbed a copy of the Pioneer Press and there is no story about this series in there

Why? They are all covering the State hockey tourney.

I love how gopher fans just take it for granted that the Sioux are going to out-recruit them in their own backyard now.:) ;)

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

Minnesota scores less than two 28% of the time.

The most likely score at the end of the game has Minnesota with two goals and UND with 3 or more.

The difference this weekend being that UND is one of the best defensive teams in the country. We aren't playing Wisconsin, CC, UMD etc. who have mediocre goaltending and a blueline prone to the occasional gaff. It's going to be a struggle for MN to score two goals in any of the games this weekend.

I think their best bet is to manage to punch one in in the first period. I really think the two keys to this series are who can get on the board first, and who wins the special teams battle. Kangas plays a large role in both of those, but the Gophers really need someone to step up and provide a little offensive firepower. I'm looking at Lucia and Carman as the two best bets in that regard. Carman has been looking much better the last month, with Sunday's game against Wisco his best ever in the Maroon and Gold, IMO.

There is so much talent in the state that its not a matter of out-recruiting. It's simply a matter of more players than scholarships available.

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

UND will try to rack up 85 hits tonight(friday). Sort of like they did against St cloud in St Cloud. Hopefully Kangas doesn't become a wall. By Saturday the goophers will be so scared they won't even want to play.

UND in 2. The Ralph will not get one extra night of beer sales this year.

I really hope that is their intent coming into this series. MN aren't a bunch of anorexic midgets a la St. Cloud. The Gophers have some big boys who like to hit. This team hasn't shown to be scared or intimidated by any team they've played this season. So if UND wants to come out and put their focus on being as physical as possible, they are going to be neglecting some other areas that would prove to be more successful for them.

Then they will lose. 1-15 in games with 2 goals or less. The numbers do not lie.

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

I'd tend to look at the above factors as exceptional to the normative stats that you highlighted. Because of the number of subjective elements in the equation it's a difficult call.

Re: WCHA First Round: MN @ UND

Well, I don't think it is quite as definite as you make it out to be, but I agree that UND is probably gonna win this series.

Well, we can look at the other side then. UND is 0-8-0 when scoring 2 or less goals.

So, if Minnesota can hold them to two and under they have a shot.

It really is a first to 3 series. But I suppose if both teams decide to go the defensive route you could have a couple of 2-1 scores which throw the stats right out the window.

So really when all is said and done whoever has the most goals at the end of each game will win.

Why would a guy like you, so skilled at ego defense mechanisms, decide to consciously embarrass yourself by admitting that you haven't grown out of your Electra complex yet? :D
