WCHA First Round - Minnesota Hosts UAA (Let's call it the vengeance series)

Re: WCHA First Round - Minnesota Hosts UAA (Let's call it the vengeance series)

How many people will be at Mariucci tonight with the HS tourney going on right now?

I know I will be there!:D

I would love to think we are going to put up 5 or 6 goals and bury them, but they will come out and play that boring trap and line up 4 guys along the blueline. If we can pop one or two in quickly they will probably give up but if not it could be an ugly 3-1 type game.

I don't know. After last nights Class AA surprise (debacle?), I am guessing there is quite a bit of interest in the Gopher game. Actually, I think some of the best tournament games remaining in Class AA could be at Mariucci if all four teams get up to play!

I hope the Gophers can put an early hurt on UAA and take them out of the game. I am predicting at least one shutout for Patterson this weekend.

Re: WCHA First Round - Minnesota Hosts UAA (Let's call it the vengeance series)

There is one thing from last year's matchup that is the same this time around. The series is in the Gopher's hands. It is theirs to lose. Last year I really thought they did that by playing pretty much zero "team defense". Seemed to me there wasn't a thought in a gopher forward's head last year that was anything other than trying to find a way to bury the puck. That mindset (or gameplan perhaps?) contributed the most to UAA's sweep. I know everyone in twinkietown blamed the gopher "defense" but it had less to do with the guys on the blueline than it did with a complete lack of backchecking.

Don't think for a second that this Seawolves team isn't capable of pulling off the same sort of upset. It's just I'd say that the probability sure seems lower this year. In any case, for the Seawolves to win they'll have to match last years effort, execution and commitment in all areas and then they'll probably need some puck luck as well. It is possible.

This year, the Gophers as a whole play MUCH MUCH MUCH better team defense. Forwards backchecking is a huge part of that which we did not see really at all last year. Add to that Patterson playing pretty darn well most of the year and well, you get the picture.

I can see AA winning one game this weekend. Gophers are the better team, but they can't look past AA. You have to come out and play like the better team to prove it. Playoffs(the real season) start tonight.....crank it up a notch!

It comes as no surprise to most of us that the D getting leagues better has coincided with Guentzel replacing Hill.

That being said, they still have their lapses. Especially on Fridays. Rather annoying.

I sold my tickets. My kid has a District playoff game in Eden Prairie and the gaem wouldbe at least half over before we could get in to Mariucci. We'll head for home and watch on TV instead and then go Saturday for Battle Hymn and stick salute. ;)

I had to sell both Friday and Saturday due to conflicts.

I am taking a bulldog fan to Saturdays game, so he can see again the team that sweep the dogs in duluth.

Mitch Bjustien being kicked off/qutting the Seawolves will only help the whooping that this series will be.

I must be since I expect the Gophers to easily sweep.

The Seawolves used to have a PPV video thing where you could watch the games. I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know where I could find a
stream or PPV of the game tonight. I can't get it on tv in Canada.

I am always concerned about schools who play the 1-2-2 system it scares me. The system is an effective boring sytem that works.
