WCHA, CCHA talk merger (08-03-11)

Re: WCHA, CCHA talk merger (08-03-11)

On the contrary. I'm full on making fun of them for holding the views they hold.

And as an aside, I could care less about any of those AHA teams and what they plan or don't plan to do. It's just that irony amuses me.
Oh, okay ... glad you found a way to entertain yourself. "Freaking" hilarious ... seems you are as easily amused as you are confused.

I think you mean "couldn't care less" as what you wrote implies you do care to some extent about the AHA teams. ;)

Re: WCHA, CCHA talk merger (08-03-11)

According to Bruce McLeod, a merger was not part of the discussion. Look near the bottom of the article.

“We had a good discussion with the CCHA, agreed to some common ground and talked about some things that could be on the table when we get the whole group together to meet in the future,” McLeod said. “I wouldn’t read too much into the meeting one way or another. It was good and positive and we have a lot of hurdles to overcome.

“It always gets back to do we worry about ourselves and get back to eight (WCHA) members or do we think of the greater good of college hockey? I think more than anything, we’re just trying to keep as nimble as we can possibly be. Gradually, we’ll get ourselves to making a decision.”

Re: WCHA, CCHA talk merger (08-03-11)

Do you people read what you type? Do you think it would an equal nightmare for the Aces to have to schedule a trip to Gwinnett on the exact same notice?

It's the exact same thing. Yet somehow because it's "unusual" then a sudden trip to Alaska is the end of the freaking world? It's not like an Alaska team (college or pro) knows their playoff opponent any earlier than the opponents know theirs.

WOW.

Who said it wasn't the same thing? But what does Niagara care if Alaska chooses to take that on? Niagara doesn't want to take that on. Whether Alaska chooses to do so is up to them - and of no bearing to Niagara, et al

Re: WCHA, CCHA talk merger (08-03-11)

Seems to me the problem is the two Alaskan schools. Why not drop them from their respective conferences, pick up teams from AHA, give UAH a home and leave room for expansion? Sounds like a great plan to me.

Side note to uaafanblog: I have you on ignore so save yourself and everyone else the three-paragraph, condescending, whiny rant.

When in the last ten years has anyone had to schedule a last minute trip to UAA for a playoff game?!

Correct!

UAA knows its flying to Minneapolis for the playoffs at minimum, and then depending on opponent will travel somewhere else.

True. But if you throw Alaska Fairbanks into the mix and the odds that they would host 1st round games would be much greater. Also, factor in that UAA will be much more competitive in the "leaner" WCHA.

The "new" WCHA will surely benefit UAA.

Leaving the WCHA isn't going to be so easy for all the teams? I know DU doesn't traditionally get minnesota kids, so only playing in Duluth won't hurt recruiting, but CC, UNO and UND could be hurt by the move. When this all takes place Those teams will get basically no coverage in the talent rich Twins cities and in many other area's of Minesota. Over the last 20 years it seems the best kids from the Duluth area seem to go to minnesota or Wiscosin as well, so good luck there as well. Ten years from now things will be a lot different for those schools and when a generation of talented players get to the college age they will not know or care about any of those schools if they grow up here.........

Maybe they will play each other. :D

Better than that, maybe they HAVE to play each other. Let's just say WCHA ends up at 8 teams, mainland teams are seeded but can only be seeds 1-3 & 6-8. UAA and _AF are automatically given the 4 and 5 seeds, and whichever of them has more points hosts. We can say its making up for the fact that for years their games were so meaningless... now they simply have to finish ahead of their biggest rival to host the playoffs. Plus they'd get 6 games against each other, again, to make up for the years where they only got 2. Kinda like paying them back with interest.

This post is absolutely correct. That is why I believe the WCHA ten years from now will be recruiting just as good or better than today. Since, the Gophers will be playing all of their non conference games on FSN against the other Minnesota schools showing potential recruits the WCHA. That is why all the BHHC schools will likely lose the Twin Cities market for ever because they are not being shown on tv in the MPLS/St.Paul. Oh yeah they will pick up a recruit here or there but surely not as many as of today.

But....the NCHC is the Super Conferene.....

I think the Minnesota teams will come out of the shake up just fine. Yes that includes you MSU. The Gophers realize it is in their best interest to keep college hockey strong in MN and to maintain the in-state rivalries. It seems every program in MN gives UM their best everytime they play. It makes for **** good hockey. One of the greatest series was the UM-MSU first round WCHA match up in Mankato a few years back.

I hope we can make the Minneosta Tournament a reality. I think this has great potential.

That is also why Duluth would be better off in the WCHA.......

UND, UMD, CC, DU and others have been successfully recruiting Minnesota, including metro area, kids for many more years than gopher hockey has been broadcast on tv. When I was in college there might have been 5 college hockey games total, across the nation, broadcast on tv, and all kinds of Minnesota kids still went to UND, UMD, and places other than the U of M.
