WCHA, CCHA talk merger (08-03-11)

DU is going to lock up another major recruit from a non-traditional market today. The verbal commitment will ensure the Gophers don't finish ahead of the Pioneers in the Pairwise for the next four years.

LOL! Wishful thinking. Two of the Top 5 players in the 1995 birth year (Hudson Fasching and Taylor Cammarata) are Minnesotans, and the Gophers have an excellent shot at landing both. Fasching is widely considered THE best player in that birth year, and there is talk that he will be a Top 5 NHL draft pick. So not sure who you are getting a verbal from, or if you are as full of crap as I think you are, but it doesn't "ensure" you of anything.

No to mention, the Gophers haven't recruited exclusively out of Minnesota in over a decade, and have recruited players out of those non-traditional markets as well (see Sam Warning out of Missouri as one example). So, if we have best odds of landing the best MN recruits, and an equal shot at landing recruits in non-traditional markets (other than maybe your home market), I'd say we have the definitive recruiting advantage with everything else equal.

You better because outside of UND your whole new league is a non-traditional market. The whole new league will be recruiting non-traditional players and over age Canadians.

If this mystery recruit is that good he will probably bolt for the OHL before he ever steps foot on DU's campus...the best of the best kids from non traditional markets hardly ever play college. Gophs have had many top 10 NHL draft picks who actually played a yr or two of college because it's just what you do if you are a MN kid.

I find the lack of threads discussing the recruitment of Minnesota skaters on this forum disturbing. Something needs to be done.

Yeah, and none of these discussions are provoked. I love how people like to complain about it, but are slow to criticize the stupid comments that start it. Yawn.

Duluth is non-traditional? :)

Remember, UMD is in Minnesota, not Georgia ;)

Agreed, we need more threads... after all the College Hockey world does revolve around Minnesota.

Looks like DU's big verbal was Quentin Shore, Drew's brother. Nice get for sure, but it in absolutely in no way makes DU untouchable. Especially for "the next four years".

Besides the obvious, its a big commitment for three reasons.

1). He's an player who absolutely, positively won't ditch DU for the WHL.

2). He might bring Drew back for his Senior season, which would be epic in this day and age.

3). He's a player who will be at DU for at least three years.

So he's not that good...Teslak stayed three years at Tech, look at where he's now. Sure he had a career ending injury (It wasn't being a Flyers prospect), but that's besides the point. :p

Mcelhinney (sp) was awesome. Faced 70+ shots and still only gave up 3 to 4 goals. Too bad he played on crappy teams.

I'll give you number one, but it's still doubtful Drew will be back for his Senior season, and if Quentin is any good, it is less likely he'll be around for three years.

I think what DG is trying to say is that our "non-traditional", stud, recruits will help us maintain our 4 year streak of finishing above the Gophers for the foreseeable future until we part ways for our respective new conferences... :)

And I explained why assuming that is a given is ridiculous.

Can this Shore skate? Cos the other two can't. Just sayin.

You probably didn't notice, since DU took 7 of 8 points from the C-Woofs while outscoring them 15-8, while finishing 6 places and 11 points higher in the standings last year than your woofs...I wouldn't watch that chit either if I were you...

I would guess you are an expert on hockey players that can't skate by being a uaa fan... just saying.

Seriously, this is tDonald that thinks his uaa c-woofs are a top team before every season...and, well, we all know how that always works out... :)

Well that has everything to do with him being able to skate. Except it doesn't.

I didn't need to read scouting reports on the kid. I could see he was a bender the first time I watched him play. Little doubt that the rest of his skills are decent however, there's a lot of guys in the NHL that can skate and score.
