Wcha 24 25

It has been brought to my attention that UW is returning more goal scoring and total points than ever before in the history of the program, so maybe there is hope for my favorite chant to get some use.
Covid years enabled all sorts of records to be set or challenged. Plus, MJ has displayed a new-found love of cubcakes (can't spell cupcakes w/o BC) in his advanced years, especially teams whose goalies are hard to hit.

Maybe Syracuse at UMD is back on? According to the AHA (where the Syracuse men play), it was postponed, and it showed that way on the Syracuse schedule, but the "postponed" is now gone from the schedule. I guess we find out tomorrow, if not sooner.

Why are they laying over in Nashville? Re-route north of the great lakes.

It’s not like they knew there would be a problem when they made the reservations. Flying in/out of upstate airports (Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and even Buffalo) isn’t always easy. Trust me. I know firsthand.

And at this point, the whole system is so messed up with all the cancellations, making a quick change is going to be tough. (My brother is stuck in Asheville trying to get back to Seattle. He even proactively changed his original reservations. Didn’t make a difference. It will be a while.)

Last week:
UM at UCONN - MN dominated but got taken to OT in game 2. Not ready for prime time yet.
tosu at BSU - Fur did fly.
Woodsters at UW - more goals than shots anyone? Um yeah, it went a wee bit better than I expected.
Cuse at UMD - Helene takes both down.

MSU at U of Manitoba - MSU wins 6-2
U of Manitoba at Tommies - Tommies win 9-1

Some very compelling N/C games this weekend:

UMD at Colgate - #3 at #7. This will tell us a lot
BSU at Bob Morris
BU at Tunnelers
LIU at Kato
Mercyhurst at St. Cloud - #15 at #11
Post at Tommettes
Tosu at St. Lawrence #4 at #8. This will also tell us a lot.
UW at BC

WCHA probably won't sweep. I think the 2 of the 3 series ranked against ranked will see one or more losses for the WCHA. St. Cloud sweeps.

WCHA shots listed first

UMD at Colgate - split 3-2 and 2-3. shots were 44/36 - 32/29
BSU at Bob Morris - Bobsters Sweep...3-4 and 2-0. shots were 20/24 and 46/19. BSU pounded the net in game 2 but nothing but heartbreak.
BU at Tunnelers - 1-0 and 5-2. shots were 41/11 and 26/14. Game 2 MN shots are shocking.
LIU at Kato - 4-1 and 4-0. shots were 39/29 and 47/16
Mercyhurst at St. Cloud - 2-0 2-1. shots were 38/21 and 27/22
Post at Tommettes - 4-1 7-0 shots 54/8 and 45/7
Tosu at St. Lawrence - 5-3 and 3-2. shots were 34/21 and 40/14
UW at BC - 7-1 7-0 shots 43/16 and 62/13

WCHA goes 13-3, with BSU getting swept and UMD splitting. MN's 26 sog in the one game is probably the most baffling stat of the weekend 6/13/7.

I think he means only 26 SOG. Remember the Sarah Nurse days at UW, where she would fly up the ice, make the D look like pylons, fake out the goalie, and then snipe a shot off the glass? This is UM's version of the gang that couldn't shoot straight.

This is a top notch reference. Nobody in college hockey history did everything except put the puck in the net in spectacular fashion like Sarah Nurse.

So a remarkable ratio of shots to goals? What about the St. Thomas stats? Sure, it's just Post, but those games had some good action.

No offense to the Tommies, I ran out of time at lunch to comment on them. The SOG differential was impressive. I was just shocked UM only put 26 sog against BU in a whole game. Shocking I say, SHOCKING!

This week:

Msu home n home Tommie's > Can the Tommies make a statement for the 5 hole?
St. Cloud at BSU > St. Cloud slam dunk
UM at that other team > The Tunneler fans would contend they don't have a chance.
UMD at UW > Things get real for UW. UMD is battle tested already.

VERY juicy set of 4 series.

The Tunnelers lost their last series with "that other team" by a total of 13-1. Very bc like and it probably won't even be that close this time. IDK, maybe they should just forfeit and save the trip?

13-1? That will probably be the 1st-period score. Although you're right; I'm being overly optimistic thinking that the Gophers can score one.

With they way they have missed the net on their attempted shots in their first 4 games, you are being optimistic...

What is the over/under that slOwSU puts up 100 shots on net for the series?

MN is a better team this year than last, on paper anyway, and that other team is worse on paper and in reality as well, so I do believe MN will outscore them on the weekend. Send the sandbags to Florida.

That's what I was thinking, and then I watched them play. I should have stuck to paper, where it was easier to talk myself into believing.

When I watched them last year, Huber played great. She's a very key player for UM to have any success, and she doesn't seem to have found her best groove yet. Adding Mlynkova definitely increases the chances of having a legit second line, and they look deeper. The mountain to climb looks quite steep, so I'm not counting on them bringing a lot of points home from Columbus.

Amazing this much negativity at the beginning of the season. Yep. Write em off. Give the trophy to Wisconsin. Save all the travel expenses, and call it a year.
How about waiting till January 1 before wailing about what the Gophers can't/won't do? And by then their two recent opponents might have defined where they rank in the pairwise.
I agree with Timothy about sending the sandbags to Florida.

You say negativity, but having watched UW and UM both play uninspiring teams from Boston during the same weekend, it feels more like reality to me. I'll gladly be proven wrong.

I'm guessing Robert Ludwig must have retired. He didn't have the Minn - OSU series this weekend, and he didn't have the Duluth - Wisconsin series. And he certainly would have had one of them.
