Don't count the Dogs out. In their slump, they held the Badgers to 2 goals in Duluth. IDK if they win, but they won't make it easy for Wisconsin. Hell, they could make the Frozen Four.
the Gophers played their best and most complete game of hockey in our first game vs. Columbus at Ridder winning 3-1. The second game turned into a godawful rock fight that I'm still disgusted about. If we play our game and don't end up giving them power plays at the most advantageous times, we win. It's a coinflip.
If the Gophers win Friday, I'll even drive up Saturday morning.
checking my tire pressure shortlyThe weather should be nice for the drive!
They gave up one today but the shooter missed the net though Ava had it covered.our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
do any of the other conferences do it? might be the teams just wanting to rest and avoid injuries before the NCAA.So what's the logic in no third place game? Both teams are there, the fans are there, why not play? Could also have NCAA implications.
Do they do that for the men's game? I know they used to, when the WCHA had the finals in St. Paul. Those were the days! A Thursday night play-in game, then 2 games apiece Friday and Saturday. I had the best seats for anonymity, a short row, so no promotional BS, 3 rows down, so just behind the reach of the cameras. Somehow I was always either sick or had a dentist appointment on Friday afternoon. So what's the logic in no third place game? Both teams are there, the fans are there, why not play? Interestingly the 4/5 game counts as a quarterfinals game, rather than as a first-round game. So the NCAA committee allows conference matchups there, and in 2022 it was an ECAC championship game rematch (Yale-Colgate).Out of curiosity: if the Gophers somehow hold on to our 3rd spot in Pairwise, what does that do to the 4/5 spot? swap #5 with Duluth at #6?
I doubt the committee wants an ECAC championship game rematch.
Any dentist worth a nickel leaves Friday afternoons open for emergency procedures. That way if you have a dental crisis, you can get it taken care of before the weekend.Do they do that for the men's game? I know they used to, when the WCHA had the finals in St. Paul. Luckily none of my bosses knew that. :>)Any dentist worth a nickel leaves Friday afternoons open for emergency procedures. That way if you have a dental crisis, you can get it taken care of before the weekend.
The players don't want to play in it. They used to have a 3rd place game in the NCAAs as well, and players really hated that one. You go from chasing a title to playing in a meaningless game (it's not like you get a bronze medal), and one team gets the insult of finishing with back-to-back losses, because the math says somebody has to do so.So what's the logic in no third place game? Both teams are there, the fans are there, why not play?
Another reason not to have it. As someone who watched his team get eliminated from the inaugural NCAA tournament field by losing a 3rd-place game they didn't want to be playing in, I've never liked 3rd place games that don't come with some reward for winning. The WCHA doesn't even give anything to the runner-up, so what good is finishing 3rd?Could also have NCAA implications.
She's also 0-4 against a goalie who wasn't good enough to even make the all rookie team. File that under goalies can only do so much.Isn't that something, the first team all wcha goalie is 0-5 head to head with the 2nd team goalie.
Things that make ya go .....hmmmmmmm.She's also 0-4 against a goalie who wasn't good enough to even make the all rookie team. File that under goalies can only do so much.
At this time there is nothing on the B1G+ schedule, but they have been known to change things at short notice. Here is hoping for that, although I plan to attend the Ridder games.A note of 'warning' for WCHA fans:
On the bracket for the tournament at NCAA.com, there's a note at the bottom that says "all games will be on ESPN+". It has certainly been the case the last couple years that first round and quarterfinal games - those game this coming weekend - have been streamed by the service of the home team. That is, one would expect that games this weekend at Wisconsin and Minnesota and Ohio State would be streamed on BTN-Plus. But that may not be the case.
Stay tuned...
'Home team streaming' in the past has only applied to the quarterfinals. By the time you get to the semis, the last few years that has been all ESPN channels, etc.At this time there is nothing on the B1G+ schedule, but they have been known to change things at short notice.
