WCHA 21-22 Season

They have not done everything possible. There was a lot of wasted opportunity the first few weeks in January where more could have been done instead of nothing.

Are we in for more shocking results this week?

UMTC at tOSU. Guessing split.
UMM at UMD. UMD sweeps.
WI at St. C and St. T. WI gets at least 1 win.
St. T at BSU. BSU gets more pts but not all.

BSU was down 2-1 at the end of 2 in game 2, stormed back, then held on for the sweep.
UMM at UMD, shots were pretty even in both games and game 2 was tight with the empty netter making is a 2 goal win.
WI has the one win, going for 2 tonight.
A tight one in game 1, and tOSU can't overcome a 4 goal 2nd period by UMTC in game 2.

On tOSU thread there is a discussion about who of these will win the regular season title...UM/UW/tOSU

UW has UMD and UMMS at home, at tOSU and the Tommies tonight
UM has BSU at home and home/homes with St. Cloud and the Tommies
tOSU is at UMMS, at St. Cloud (1), at BSU, then UW at home
UMD has 2 at St Cloud, 2 home St. Cloud, Tommies at home, at WI

UM is a lock for the title. They will run the table.
tOSU is a lock for 2nd though they play one more game than UM. A reasonable thought is they split with WI.
Can UMD catch UW for 3rd is the biggest question. 2 head to head this weekend games this weekend and they play 1 more than UW. If they swept WI and win the extra game and UW splits with tOSU is that enough for 3rd?

Wisconsin with three more losses, and Duluth winning eight straight would be more than enough for Duluth to pass UW.

"UM is a lock for the title. They will run the table."

Minn is quite likely to win the conference championship, but it isn't a "lock". If either Ohio St or Wisconsin goes undefeated (and untied, etc) the rest of the way, they win the championship, regardless of what the Gophers do. Ironically, though the Gophers are the most likely to win it, they are the only one of the three NOT fully "in control" of the outcome.

I suppose I am completely writing tOSU off, it's not impossible for them to run the table as UW stumbles into them the last week of the season. That being said, based on the schedule and the idea that MN does not revert to their old selves, they are a lock. Go put a hundo down in Vegas. Book it. The WCHA should send the banner to them now so they can raise it on the last regular season game in front of this season's fans. It's ovah.

Top 4 teams in the country now according to Pairwise with UMD moving up the 4th.

What a nightmare for the East...Speaking of which, I wonder where that poster (I think Eastfan something or other) is these days?

What a nightmare for the East...
Wouldn't that be a huge nightmare for the committee as well? What do they do -- fly the entire tournament field west? Or is there enough flexibility in the schedule such that they can play an opening round in the East and bring the winners west for a quarterfinals? I expect that there will still be some shuffling at the top, but it does simplify the entire "minimize flights" edict if there is absolutely no way to minimize them without messing with the seeds. And maybe they find a way to change who is/isn't seeded and give the committee some secret powers in the interest of "retaining regional balance" (translated: saving money).

This year for the first time in the volleyball tournament, the NCAA required a 'day off' between matches held at the regional sites instead of playing on consecutive nights (there has 'always' been a day off in between the semi-final and final, though I'm not sure how far back 'always' goes). And the basketball tournaments has 'always' had a day off in between games.

So "in the interest of parity with other sports", you could have - for example from the current Pairwise - Northeastern play LIU on Thursday, then have Friday as a 'travel/rest' day before one of them plays Wisconsin in Madison. I'm not sure how restful a travel day really is, but...

(I hope they don't. I'll go watch Northeastern play LIU at LaBahn. Heck, even with COVID around; I assume maintaining 'social distance' at such a game would be really easy.)

Save time and money and declare the winner of the WCHA tournament the national champion...

I think you are correct, but I have a feeling however wins the WCHA doesn't win the title. The top 3 are pretty evenly matched and they all can win it, not sure UMD has enough fire power to play with them. The one line is good, but like at OSU, when you shut them down tough for UMD to win.

I'm sure you're right. However, LIU might attract more fans to Wisconsin than one might think at first, as I see players from locations such as Michigan, Illinois, and Manitoba. LIU even has a player from Marshfield, which I guess is no closer to Madison than Chicago is. For an NCAA game, locals tend to draw more friends and family than does a regular-season contest.

OSU and Minnesota have done what they needed to do...OSU shuts out Mankato 5-0. Minnesota blanks BSU 7-0. Wisconsin has a bit more of a struggle down 1-0 at the start of the 3rd period.

Wisconsin get shutout by UMD 3-0. 2 goals by UMD in the 3rd (1 an ENG) and that hurts Wisconsin's chances of a WCHA regular season championship.

Pretty exciting conference this year! The game clock on the stream was stuck at 1:00 to go in the third for a while which I found pretty distracting..lol

Wow the Tommies beat St. Cloud in game 1 when they scored 3 PPG's over a 3:40 span in the 3rd period, 2 on a 5 on 3 and a 5 x 4. Please email the tape on that to MJ1980goldmedalman@ihatetherodents.org. Thanks and much appreciated.

That would actually be kind of nifty if you or some unnamed native Minnesotan had the domain ihatetherodents.org but it seems more likely a Whoiux fan would put out some coin to have that domain.

Both the .org and .com domains are currently available. Of course I checked!

(In the interest of completeness, I also checked "ihatethegophers" and "ihatethebadgers". Both of the .com versions are taken, both of the .org versions are available.)

If I knew anything about domains or websites and was slightly bored, I'd be all over this, but alas I am too busy knowing nothing.

The top 4 play the bottom 4. I'd say WI is the only top 4 team at serious risk of losing a game this weekend.
