WCHA 2025-26

OSU's Carmichael and MN's Graham were the two who got coincidental minors with 3 seconds to play. The box score reads "Disqualification" at 20 minutes for their clash coming out of the box (the start of which we don't see on camera). The rest all read "Game misconduct". There are seven of those.

Disqualification comes with a suspension, but game misconduct does not? Is that correct?

OSU's Baxter takes the faceoff, and - adopting Lindsay's characterization - is the "second person in", delivering a couple of cross-checks to her faceoff opponent Emma Kreisz, who was not penalized. MN's Primerano is the "third person in", striking back at Baxter.

The rest are part of the 'penalty box' fight. When the TV picks that up, OSU's Jungaker and Peschel are "third persons in" joining Carmichael taking Graham to the ice; we don't see what happened with Carmichael and Graham before that. MN's Morrow arrives shortly after. The only true punch I see throw is OSU's Petrie landing one on Morrow. MN's Murphy arrives, and *maybe* throws a punch at Petrie, just as the camera changes the view. Nobody else was penalized.

I need to amend my previous reply. Rule 23 of the NCAA Ice Hockey Rule Book for 2024-25 and 2025-26 states...
The progressive game-disqualification structure shall be:
1. First disqualification penalty—that game plus one.
2. Second disqualification penalty—that game plus two.
3. Third disqualification penalty—that game plus three.
4. Fourth disqualification penalty—that game plus four. (The progression shall continue after the fourth disqualification penalty.)

Any game-disqualification penalties shall carry over to the next season for players with remaining eligibility.

It's unclear to me if that last sentence applies to only the suspensions being actively enforced or if it means the disqualification penalty count carries over season-to-season. At least one AI chatbot indicated that the disqualification count resets at the start of each new season, but I have not found hard evidence to support that (nor to contradict it).

Does anyone here read lips? Because I think I can get a couple of the words that Muzerall shouts out (at the refs?) when they show her just after Sloane Mathews gets her 'delay of game' penalty, 4:55 remaining in the 2nd period. LOL! But I'd appreciate knowing that whole sentence/exchange.
Friend of mine was in the area and said all she said was mostly four letter words.

8 Minnesota being 3rd person in after Kreisz went down seems to ignite the game ending melee, or be the gas for an already lit match. Crosschecks to the back of the head, woof. Perhaps the whole game was out of hand.
Emma Kreisz getting pinned to the ice---FOR NO REASON AFTER THE GAME WAS OVER---with Chloe Primarano going in to get her out. but sure, it was Chloe that was the problem.

The whole third period OSU players were acting like goons and it got worse as time wore down.

If you’re Minnesota I guess you’re happy with a split but embarrassing seeing the coaches trying to control the players going nuts at the end. A far worse look than not getting Pohl. OSU, I guess still figuring out what they have this year. Discipline helped them win their national championships and it looks like they are losing their grip on that.
I'd be far far FAR more embarrassed to be an OSU fan. OSU players started it, our players went in to get their teammates out. Hell if I could I'd buy the whole team a round of drinks.

A far worse look than not getting Pohl
honestly, no one gives a shit. She didn't want to compete for ice time? Okay well thanks for considering us. We've moved on.

The kreisz play at the end was a hockey play. She went down on a face off. End of game, ref literally right there. Did a frustrated OSU player push her down, probably. Again, ref right there who can handle it.

Primerano is supposed to be a Canadian KK? That was more Murphy than KK. Frost needs to get his top talent in line if the goal is a national championship.

OSU needs to learn how to lose with class.

Whole thing looked bush league but I’m sure there’s a faction of “fans” that will love it.

I never commented on not getting Pohl because it ignores what players want, much like criticizing Muzerall when she doesn’t get younger sisters. I can understand why you’ve moved on because it’s nothing. But the coaches from both teams out there after the game grabbing jerseys is embarrassing.

Wisconsin will keep going about their business I’m sure.

Primerano came with HYPE. The Athletic articles about her and anything. There really hasn’t been any highlight reel stuff of her that broke through in the limited women’s hockey world since she joined the ncaa. Not saying she hasn’t done anything but nothing ever really popped online. But dangerous headshots after a game is over is now out there. And yes it adds more fuel to that fire and seconds later 3 OSU players take down another Minnesota player from behind (extremely dangerous and gutless). What are any of these players thinking? These are supposed to be marquee programs of the sport.

Can't say Murphy didn't cause what took place yesterday. Her consistent dirty play and constant diving causes the other team and the refs to prepare for the Gophers beyond normal hockey preparation and suddenly you have a game that isn't normal D-1 women's hockey. I hope it remains an aberration and doesn't influence the game as a whole.

Refs need to call the game to the best of their ability but calling against Murphy if they are in doubt is totally understandable. And it's probably better to let some hits go than to always call coincidentals with Murphy getting an embellishment every time. She gets hit hard a lot and often lays on the ice and as a fan you don't if she is really hurt or not. That can make you feel real good inside, wondering if she's faking or really hurt!

I am not letting the Buckeyes off the hook at all and there was a strong stink of bad sportsmanship over losing yesterday but I hate that Gopher games have so much extracurricular action to what women's hockey has mostly been about.

Last Feb, in Columbus, Ohio and Minn played a very penalty-filled game. 20 minors called, Ten each way, plus a game misconduct to Murphy. Three pairs of coincidental roughing penalties. Same two refs, BTW. These two teams don't like each other.

#18...I will be glad when I no longer have to see her wearing the M. Enough has been said about the cement head actions she does.

Problem is, you can't just blame it all on her. Cheese and rice, I thought I was watching fighting whioux hockey with the poor sportsmanship displayed by the yuckers at the end of the game.

Not a good look for the coaches to be coming out on the ice to try an settle things down? What the heck are they supposed to do? Just let it be a free-for-all out there?

Look, bottom line is, I watch women's hockey so I don't have to watch elevated aggressiveness and goonery. I can get more than my share of that on the men's side of things. This type of monkey shines in women's hockey is not what I want to see.

When I first started watching women's hockey - One of the things I told people was so great about it - was that because they couldn't check, they had to rely more on their hockey skills, -they had to skate, pass, and control their sticks better - they couldn't just smash the player into the boards and take the puck, they had to work to get the puck - and to keep the puck. Every year we get further from that.

The game is certainly heading in the wrong direction.

I am fearful how WI first series with TWSNBN will go. They have not used the word vendetta in regards to the rodents and yet look what happened. I think Muzzy's schtick is not good for the game.

Assistant coaches Kelsey Cline and James Wisniewski were out almost as quickly as Frost. Muzerall can be seen on camera somewhat later, though she could certainly have been out on the ice but not on camera earlier.
I found it very disappointing that TWSNBN's coaches did not come out and and try to deescalate. Props to Frosty's crew.

While the game has gotten more physical as a whole over the years, anyone who thinks that there weren't altercations before this wasn't watching the first 15 years of UMD vs UM. We learned that orange Gatorade, or whatever that was, doesn't clean up off the ice very well.

sure sure, Abbey made them do it. It was all Abbey's fault. Abbey used a secret mind control beam from the ceiling of Ridder (I helped install it) to make them do stupid shit like slam Nelli's head into the glass.

She kinda did because the penalty she took for hooking lead to the whole fiasco.

You all can go watch the whole third period. Or, if you prefer, I am happy to snatch the whole game from B1G+ and share the full 4gb file.

what part of "OSU player shoves Nelli Laitinen's HEAD into the glass at a high rate of speed from behind" involves Abbey Murphy?

More to the point: the whole OSU team was acting this way, not just individual players. Tfhe more the game got out of reach for OSU, the rougher and more violently they played. It wasn't just Carmichael or Rasmussen, it was the whole gd team.

I know you all hate Murphy and that's fine. But Murphy's first penalty was only in the 3rd period after the refs let her get slammed over the goal posts with no penalty. I have no doubt that when she's in the PWHL next year, some of y'all will still blame her for things she had little to no role in initiating.

in her defense (ugh) and IIRC, Muzzy was in her usual stilettos and not able to get out of the bench area very quickly.

That said her first move once she was on the ice was to hobble over to scream at Brad Frost while he tried to break up the fight.

The University has asked me to point out that we're a Coke school and it was Powerade® /j

That's pretty much word-for-word what I've always said, too, so you probably owe me a beer for reading my mind without permission. You're lucky I don't drink.
