WCHA 2025-26

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that having a “chip on our shoulder” is the only way Muzzy knows how to coach—but I would say it’s her preferred method. I believe she manufactures or exacerbates situations to motivate her players. Good on her, I guess. Win a championship? Suddenly it’s, “Nobody thinks we can do it again.”

Being perpetual underdogs is hard to sustain once you become successful, so you grab onto whatever you can—in this case, a “vendetta.” And who better than the BADgers? Why? Because it fits her methodology and proven past tactics.
They are using the "V" word quite liberally on their FB fan site.
THE rematch of the 2024 National Championship game should not be missed on December 5-6 at the OSU Ice Rink. Get your tickets as these games will sell out! V is for Vendetta.

If they want some "billboard material" ... in the pre-season coaches' poll, Wisconsin got seven first place votes, one each from the seven other coaches; coaches don't include their own team on their ballot. The other first place vote, cast by MJ necessarily for one of the other teams, went to Minnesota. That is, MJ voted Minnesota over Ohio State. LOL.

And, by same/similar logic - Muzzy voted for the Badgers. Someone with a true vendetta wouldn't have voted for the Badgers out of spite/malice. :)

Very interesting. I'd explain it away as she doesn't want to pick MN and be wrong. She'd rather be right.

Everyone knows that Johnson voted to MN because he can't vote for his own team. He doesn't have to explain that to the media. If Muzzy votes for MN she has to explain why and that's probably a conversation she doesn't want to entertain since it would be hard to justify it other than spite.

Wisconsin is an even bigger favorite for the WCHA regular season than it is for the NCAAs, so little analysis is needed as to why tOSU's coach voted as she did. Even dominant teams typically find themselves in a tenuous situation at some point in the tournament, where one loss knocks you out. The Badgers did, in spite of winning the season by six games. This year, UW's biggest WCHA season challenge figures to come from the Olympics.

I love stats and these are courtesy of Kendrick Stumbris who is a great follow on twitter.

Based on this, the BSU and STU could be fighting for home ice, will their experience be worth anything big in the standings? A certain teams seems to have a lot of holes in the dike.

Usually in Olympic years UW is doomed NCAA-wise, but this year with the new format, that's not the case. It could cost them the wcha regular season title, but that would not bother me at all. The NCAA is what it's all about. The first round of the wcha playoffs is 2/27 and the gold medal game for the women is 2/19, closing ceremonies is 2/22. Hopefully the UW players bug out after getting the gold medals around their necks, but I would not blame them for wanting to be part of the closing ceremonies.

BSU scored 56 goals in conference play last season. Returning 75% of that doesn't really move the needle. It doesn't feel like the possibility of home ice in the playoffs is likely. STU maybe but it's more likely the same four that finished in the top half last year will repeat this year. Looking at percentages when UW scored 221 doesn't tell you much.

Good perspective. At least BSU as a usable foundation. I can't imagine the coaching change at SCSU will advance them in the standings. I'm hoping for a little chaos 3-6 this year. The Olympics may contribute to the potential chaos.

St. Cloud with a 5 - 0 win over Lindenwood. 2 goals scored on a 5 on 3 power play. Both teams in action again today. St Thomas will play at Post on Sunday, to be televised on Youtube according to the Victory Press.

Ohio State was supposed to play an exhibition against the Durham Lightning this afternoon, but if there's any details about it anywhere, I haven't found it.

Particularly, I was curious about any update on Kaia Malachino's status. Anybody know anything?

OSU 7-1. Looks like Minn beat Bemidji 5-1 in their exhibition.

Officially......

MSU over RPI 3-0 / 5-3
UMD Over Hurst 4-3 / 5-3
St. Cloud over LW 5-0 / 5-0
STU over Post 7-0 / 6-1

The projected all WCHA goalie has a 3.00 gaa after 2 games vs a AC team. Isn't that something?
