WCHA 2023-2024 Calamity Or Calmness?

Nothing personal but I rooted for Minnesota last night and today it's for Wisconsin. Best case scenario to give Ohio State some cushion in conference points. ( Wink)

Obviously the sinners were embarrassed and came out and proved why they will wind up being at least the 2nd best team in WCHA. They play like that they are going to be difficult for any team to beat.

I really think Murphy's shenanigans really are embarrassing for women's hockey. Chripping yelping yelping chirping constantly, flopping like a fish out of water, taking stupid penalties (I've never seen a slashing major before). On that one face off she was cheating so bad that the referee had to go line them up, even then she was cheating way into Gorbtenko's side. She's really doing her talent dis-service. You can play hard and fast and not be a complete jerk on the ice. And then those activities make the other teams act poorly as well. Today Wisconsin leveled her four times. The first one did not get a penalty call on it. Her actions and Wisconsin's retaliation actions are not the kind of actions we want people who are supposed to be role models to act and have our young people follow. A sad display of sportsmenship indeed.

I mentioned before, this has been talked about between Gopher posters and it is a shame that this talented of a player has this baggage...

However, as you mention, that does not let the opposition teams off the hook for choosing to retaliate and do the same unsportsmanlike things.

Were the Lams as bad, and I've just let the memories' hard edges soften. or is Murphy at another level?

As of today Murphy is the best player in college hockey. Should win the Patty Kaz. I also predict that her future is extremely bright when she goes pro. What a entertaining and mesmerizing player to watch.

In fairness, anyone who roots for Britta Curl doesn't have a whole lot of basis for this. She is a skating embellishment penalty. There was one instance yesterday when she grabbed at her throat as a Gopher passed by without making contact.

IMO, the dynamic with the Lams was different. My perception was that they were more dominant players during their prep careers, and started receiving "attention" at a younger age. They weren't shy about doing anything that they thought was necessary to defend themselves. They were a little bigger and stronger, and because they were mostly on the ice together, their physical interactions with opponents sometimes felt like you were watching a pro wresting tag team. I'd say they had more "checking from behind" in their game; it felt like they were trying to put people through the boards at times.

I'm not the best source for this, as their rookie NCAA season was the only one where I watched the Lams extensively, and I haven't watched Murphy that much at all. They all get a little smarter as they go along, but at the same time, their profile is increasing with fans and opponents. For the top players, women's hockey is such a small world. They've been competing against each other for years, and any game is just the latest chapter. If I knew all of the interactions that any two players had throughout their careers, I'd likely view them through a different lens.

Little miss sassy pants was getting everyone's blood pressure up. Anything that happened out of the ordinary in physicality in these last 2 games can be attributed to her.

I can't believe the refs missed the play where the rodent skater tried to decapacitate McNaughton by slamming her head against the post with her body. I wonder why UW did not challenge that. In the men's game against PSU, Brady Cleveland got a 5 minute major for contact to the head on a play that no penalty was called during the play but PSU "challenged" the no call.

Sort of a WCHA recruiting update...

Saw this posted on GPL...Sawyer Fleming, who was previously committed to slOwSU and then decommitted, is now committed to Princeton

It would be very interesting to sit behind the OSU bench when they're playing the rodents and see how Muzzy reacts to little miss sassy pant's antics. I'm trying to think of a sign to hold up behind the rodent bench when they're at Wisconsin that is tasteful yet a little pointedly funny regards to her. I have a few ideas. The thing that sucks is you have to make the sign at the rink, and you can't make it at home and bring it in. That would make it a lot easier to do.

I just want to be there to see you sitting on the floor in the walkway with the six-year old kids making your sign.

:-)

That's pretty brave of you considering we've told you before the Muzzinator knows what you look like and where you sit. You should wear a disguise no one would recognize you in, like say an Ohio State jersey? LOL!!

How about a Gopher jersey? Timothy will eventually accept those colors.

They really should have tables and chairs up there so the "kids" can do those things a little more comfortably. I can probably make the sign out of just typical 8 by 11 paper at home and then bring some tape along and tape those to the poster board they supply.
