WCHA 2023-2024 Calamity Or Calmness?

Beautiful assist for the tunnelers to allow SCSU to tie it up 1-1...

Yeah, this is a good on so far. Gophers go up on a PP and it gets tied on a bad turnover in front of Vetter.
I did temporarily subscribe to watch this one. After St.Cloud taking one at Ohio State I couldn't resist seeing how they'd do on their home ice against the Gophers.

Congratulations, Greg Shepherd. You've been complicit in creating an environment in which it's open season on Abbey Murphy. You have refused to hold your referees accountable for not calling penalties committed against her. Yes, she commits a lot of penalties herself, and it's justified that they are called on her. But they have to be called both ways, and your employees have conspicuously failed to do so.

Tonight, it produced exactly the outcome anyone who was paying attention knew it would.

With five minutes left in regulation, Klara Hymlarova slew footed Murphy into the boards. It should have been a major penalty, but it ended up being coincidental minors, since Ella Huber picked up a penalty for coming to Murphy's defense. In fairness, Huber earned her two minutes, but if the referees would ever do their jobs, she wouldn't have had to.

With fifteen seconds left, C.C. Bowlby drove her shoulder through Murphy's head on a face off play. Finally, finally, the refs called a major penalty. But it's too late. Murphy likely has a concussion. This could have been prevented, if your operation wasn't grossly negligent.

I blame Hymlarova. I blame Bowlsby. I blame goon coaches like Brian Idalski. I blame Tyler Olsen and Glendon Seal. But, in the end, this is on you. You are the one who has the job of making sure that the rules are followed and that the game is as safe as hockey can be. You have manifestly failed to do your job.

This isn't new. It's been obvious for years that you instruct the officials you lead not to call the game as they have been instructed to do by the NCAA. That you think that this is what you should do is an indication that you are unfit to hold the position that you do. You are one of the most useless ************* in the entire sport of hockey. The WCHA needs to fire you and start over.

I can understand Eeyore's frustration. Early last season one of our girls took a hard shot to the head and was down on the ice for minutes and Bradshaw was like twelve feet away looking straight at it and no call. I felt a number of major penalties were non calls last season. Perhaps this season is a repeat?

Murphy was skating with her head down. Bowlby was rushing out to cover the d and it was kind of a random collision. I believe if Murphy has her head up she avoids the situation.

To the "flipper" poster who has an obvious axe to grind. Those plays mentioned by Still Eyeore were not "flips".

And to add to Still Eyeore's correct assesement of what went down with some questions. Is this what fans want to happen in women's hockey? Men's hockey goonery? Take out the opposition's best player because she is frustrating to play against? I don't care how frustrating #18 is to play against. those two plays were uncalled for. Love her or hate her, she is one of these most talented players to watch and the women's game needs to have that kind of talent on display. Not being taken out by goon tactics of the opposition team.

please...don't do that caca...

Just flip the script and put your top player (#4) in that position.

I've seen Murphy take a lot of cheap shots during her career and kind of has a reputation for it. I somewhat feel that if she played a cleaner game maybe she wouldn't be targeted so much. That's just one perspective and FiveHole may be right that it's another teams strategy to take out the oppositions best player but would a WCHA coach really try to injure a player? I have serious doubts about that.
