Well it's hardly a university without research and sports. I mean who is going to attend?. kids are not dumb. You think they only go to a schools for instruction? they can do that on line.

I didn't realize there was a requirement for a minimum number of sports to be offered. That being said, I'm gusssing they don't have to be the sports you offer now. Drop track and field and add fencing. Replace basketball with bowling. Substitute a hockey team with golf. If having a certain number of sports is required, pick two or three you really want on campus and the other 7 can be the least expensive to operate to help cut costs.

NCAA golf in Alaska might be a bit problematic. If you think we have a hard time getting hockey teams up here...

It would become a glorified community college. Might as well fold up shop across most of the state and focus on online, for-profit education. University of South Central Interior Alaska? Yee haw!

I wouldn't think the NCAA would object to the two programs "merging", under one administration and one unified University of Alaska flag. Is there a rule that a University needs to be 1 campus? It was not long ago that the University of Minnesota was considered 2 campuses, one in St. Paul, 1 in Minneapolis. Both were the Gophers, under the same athletic program.

It's not ideal, but it better than having it all cut, IMO.

There is no way the NCAA let's that go through, it would put every "-" school in every state at risk of consolidation and open the doors for way too many shenanigans by schools.

UAA got off very lightly being in the WCHA. UAF had to pay for everything for CCHA schools to visit. (I'm oversimplifying it and fully expect a DavyD post to correct me.)

With the New WCHA, it was decided that UA_ and UAA were outposts and should pay something into the WCHA. UAA had to pay more, UAF got off a little easier than the CCHA days.

Also, UAA had a nice Golden Goose WCHA Final Five check every year. The CCHA threw a kick-*ss party for the fans with their smaller take from the Super Six/CCHA Championship and gave their schools nothing. And they liked it dammit!

You're pretty accurate. UAF provided a set number of plane tickets, hotel and ground transport. Teams paid for tickets above the number provided and their meals.

Now there is a set dollar figure each school receives for visiting UAH, another for UAA and the highest for UAF. I believe UAF also provides rooms at the luxurious Alpine Lodge (which I believe is now LaQuinta) and ground transport.

I thought the hotel piece went away with the WCHA move.

So Michigan wins tonight, I run MY RPI calculator and get MTU alone in 16th. I check CHN (and USCHO) and they have MTU losing the comparison to Miami because their RPIs are virtual ties.
For my calculator, I have MTU with 0.5286081 vs Miami 0.5286022 (difference of 0.0000059) Crazy stuff.

What would happen if Tech lost a game to Alaska this weekend? How much damage would be done to Tech's PWR?

Without running the numbers, I'd say that it likely put the seson in Broadmoor or bust mode. Sure, if everything fell right, an at large might be possible, but everything isn't going to fall right.

Any thing less than a sweep this weekend and MTU is in trouble with the broadmoor being their ownly likely opportunity

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

A single loss tomorrow drops MTU from 0.5286 to 0.5213 and from 17th to 24t without another game being played...
CHR did a nice chart on Tech this weekend:

To summarize, the Huskies need to sweep to stay where they are in the PWR.

JohnsonsJerseys - I doubt that grad students are a suck, because they're typically funded by grants at schools with a lot of research on-going (around here, UAH, Tech, Fairbanks, and I think BG at some strong level per Carnegie). If you're interested in going through those rankings: http://carnegieclassifications.iu.edu/lookup/standard.php# I don't have time to look everything up right this moment.

http://blog.wchaplayoffs.com/2016/02/26/week-22-predictions/ Boy, if it goes that way, it'll be pretty stacked up. Mankato probably has the easiest stretch run, ignoring that they had to travel to Alaska. With points in hand, I'm fairly certain that they'll get there. As for 2/3, i think you have to give Tech the upper hand based on wins.
