WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

So Michigan wins tonight, I run MY RPI calculator and get MTU alone in 16th. I check CHN (and USCHO) and they have MTU losing the comparison to Miami because their RPIs are virtual ties.
For my calculator, I have MTU with 0.5286081 vs Miami 0.5286022 (difference of 0.0000059) Crazy stuff.

But as of this moment, Miami is ineligible for the tournament since their record is sub .500 so the comparison is irrelevant.

With CC and UMD left, very likely that they do finish the regular season at or above .500. They are this year's SCSU and will be interesting to see if they make it through the playoffs above .500.

Saw them last weekend when they were thoroughly overrun by WMU. CC swept them earlier in the season when the Tigers were struggling. The Redhawks are so inconsistent right now that I can see splits the rest of the way. They'll be one of the scores that many will be watching for the next 3 weeks.

Would LOVE to see them keep up that inconsistent play. 😄

'Pick a Number, Any Number' is no way to set the University of Alaska budget

http://www.adn.com/article/20160225/pick-number-any-number-no-way-set-university-alaska-budget

I can't believe what I just read.
Sen. Charlie Huggins, R-Mat-Su, says as soon as the Legislature allows those who succeed in reaching the age of 21 to carry concealed weapons, the university can save money by recruiting volunteer armed security officers. “And they’d probably come at very low cost, particularly if you supplied the ammunition for them to practice with,” Huggins told the Senate committee that is supposed to deal with education

No words.

Yup...the caliber of people in the majority party making laws in this state is astounding. The fact they all hate Walker (who, by the way, proposed $335 million for UA) tells me the Gov is doing something right.

You are just jealous that you didn’t think of these ideas first…
1. Forbid any informational sex education material from any abortion services provider to be distributed in public schools and firing any teacher or administrator that knowing allows it, and a $5,000 fine for every “aggrieved child.” Because we know that if planned parenthood didn’t put these crazy sex ideas in children’s heads and encourage abortions that they would never be tempted.
2. Forbidding the Board of Regents to restrict the right to carry firearms on campus, and as noted, consider having “volunteer” armed security officers for the price of providing real live ammo instead of the usual paint variety. What could possibly go wrong?

Edit: We should start another thread for this stuff, because it is only going to get more bizarre and unrelated to the WCHA. Athletics will just be collateral damage.

I'd think 9mm or .40 would both be acceptable calibers.

Corrections in your standings: UAF has 16 points, and UAH has 14. Basically for UAH to get in they have to win tonight, sweep BG, UAA loses to MSU tonight, UAF loses to MTU tonight, and UAF must take exactly three points against UAA (no more, no less). (Insert your favorite "So you're telling me there's a chance" meme here.)

Thanks ... I'd started with the Most Likely Standings table and changed W-L-T but clearly missed those two. Thanks.

It's ... so, so iffy.

What we know as of 22:00 EST 27Feb

Home Ice clinched:
MSU
MTU
BGSU

Home ice race:
NMU leads FSU by 1 pt - Only two teams still alive for home ice.
NMU can only finish 4 or 5 - Holds tiebreaker C on BSU.
FSU can fall as far as 6. Leads BSU by 3.

Teams in/has inside track:
BSU can finish from 5 to 7.
LSSU has clinched a playoff spot. Will finish 6 to 8. May be no worse than 7 with a L by UAA tonight.
UAA needs 3 pts in their final 3 games or just 2 pts vs. UA_ to clinch.

Outside looking in:
UA_ needs 3 pts vs. UAA to clinch - Would hold Tiebreaker A with UAA.

Eliminated:
UAH - UAA holds all tiebreakers.

Week 22 BELOW Rankings: http://blog.wchaplayoffs.com/2016/02/28/2015-16-week-22-below/

I'll do series predictions tomorrow (it'll actually take me about a half-hour to pull the data together, but I don't want to flood the Internet with posts), and then I'll go to work on the branches thing that I do, with the addition of BELOW-based predictions this year. That's a big spreadsheet to make ten games with three outcomes each: 59,049 rows.

I was just fooling around with the CHN predictor and I was surprised to find that given a Miami/ Duluth split and minnesota gets one tie with wisconsin, Mankato is in at 15. all prior to the playoffs of course.

Does the predictor have this weekend's playoff games? Its hard to use the CHN predictor now because of the uneven weekends remaining (HEA, AHA, ECAC are starting tournaments/WCHA, NCHC have one week left/B1G has 2 weeks left)...

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Who holds the tie-breaker between BG and Mankato should they end up tied?

Who holds the tie-breaker between BG and Mankato should they end up tied?

They went 1-1-2 against each other, so it could come down to conference wins, which could be a tie. Then it would go to win percentage against the next highest ranked team, if I am following the tiebreakers correctly.
