WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Sorry if this has already been asked, but how the hell do you sign into WCHA.tv? Every time I click on the "sign in" or "log in" button nothing happens. I'm using Chrome but it's not working on Internet Explorer either. Has this happened to anyone else? I'd love to catch the end of the BSU/Northern game.

I haven't had any problems with Chrome. Have you gone to eversport.tv and reset your password?

I am excited to see the match up between Bowling Green and Robert Morris in a couple weeks.

You would think RM would be in the top 16 of the pairwise only losing 1 game this season but it also shows how week their schedule is.

Looking forward to the outdoor game in Toledo. Should be a ton of fun if the weather is decent.

Yeah, did that. I'm dealing with eversports "tech support" now. I'm pretty much ready just to give up on it. They even gave me a back channel way in that wasn't working either. They said they've had a few other reporting problems with signing in. It's just frustrating not to be able to watch games after paying for it. I thought it all worked much better last year.

Some real big non con games coming up. If bg loses it will hurt all of us. the Nmu vs PSU games are also big. Good luck to our teams in the second half.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

We have the potential for 20 NC games remaining. The North Star Cup and GLI could both results in an inter-WCHA "non-conference" game. I would think we have a great shot at 10 more wins depending on how things shake out in the tournaments.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

What cities has the new Commish Bill Robertson visited on his "Goodwill Tour" of the WCHA teams?

Last I heard only Ferris in November. Has he been to all the rinks yet?

Crap. He's back, with a new name. The first half of the season was so enjoyable, and now to finish it out, we get the flu and then Pink Pony. At least the flu goes away pretty quickly.

I'll give him a break for now, his posts seem legit so far.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

I agree on the PP alert — just seems exuberant.

As for the goodwill tour: Bill started off at UAH, and I'm pretty sure that he went to BG after that. (He mentioned that because we were hosting the Falcons.)

correct, he was in BG for the Mankato series on Oct. 31/Nov. 1.

Kevin Gordon talked with Bergeron about the WCHA doing back-to-back Alaska series on a Friday-Saturday, Tuesday-Wednesday format to shorten trips. vice-versa for the Alaska schools playing in the lower 48 states on back-to-back weekends. hmm. worth considering? obviously would suck for attendance.

Well, if teams are doing one set of flights and then transit between Anchorage and Fairbanks, it should decrease the cost of the trip —*especially if you can get both schools that are doing the double that year to do it in the same week span. The Alaska schools could rightly ask for a decrease in their support of the trip.

I mean, let's fake numbers here:

Standard trip:
Flights: $11k
Lodging: $3k
Meals: $3k
Ground Transportation: $2k
Total: $20k

So the year that you do the double — how many teams do that again? — you're spending $40k on travel.

But if you can get away with being up there for a week, it could look like:

Flights: $11k
Lodging: $6k
Meals: $6k
Ground Transportation: $6k
Total: $29k

And since the formula for the trip costs to UAH is based on taking the farthest non-Alaska league trip and replacing it with Huntsville[sub]1[/sub], you could apply the same logic here. Instead of each Alaska school kicking in $10k for each of those two trips, you say, "You each only pay $5500," because you've saved $11k on the cost of the trip. Does the $4500 offset the drop in attendance for Tue/Wed against weekend games? Probably not, but if the Alaska schools can get the same kind of deal on trips to the Lower 48, maybe it makes sense.

For teams doing the Alaska double in one week, give them a league week off the weekend after the travel.

It's worth talking about. Dave, I'm sure that you have better access on numbers for this — my numbers are atmospheric extractions.

GFM

[1] I think that the worst league trip would have to be Lake Superior to Bemidji State, as there are no major airports within 5-6 hours of either city in winter driving conditions. Actually, Sault Ste. Marie to Huntsville by bus is probably an easier trip given that you're coming south the whole way.

You may wish to check that $11K figure on flights. Mine was over $1100 alone and that's before you add baggage.
