WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

We all know which games will be on WCHA.tv, but there is a site that shows the upcoming broadcast schedule for every available college hockey game:
http://www.isthegameon.com/ch.php

Is there a contact for this website (I couldn't get the contact link to work)? All BSU home games are on over the air TV through Lakeland Public Television (HD) and TPT2 (SD) throughout Minnesota and parts of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Not sure. Just found it via Deadspin.

Now it will be a race to see which school makes the best math comments here: Tech or UAH. I'd argue that you need two points for a trend line, and heck, I think that you want to do some regression analysis and maybe a running average.

Geof, don't you think you hit the nail a bit heavy on that one? :)

Besides, the regression analysis clearly comes after they return to the 1-0 or 2-1 games again. And the standard deviation is making the running average meaningless.

I always go overboard. ;)

I don't expect to win when one player takes two major penalties in the same game.

What are you two nerds talking about? As far as the ADs are concerned, what really matters is the amount of GROSS REVENUE each team delivers. In the form of tickets and concessions sold to the community and the students, plus suite income (if applicable), media deals, and also increased enrollment based on athletic success. You combine that with team expenditures (coach/staff salaries, equipment, travel, meals, facilities) and you are able to determine how much NET VALUE the team ADDS to the university. :D

The proper "goodness of fit" statistic for regression is R^2.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

BGSU set the all-time attendance record with 5300+ in attendance. Of that, 3000 were students (BG has an undergrad enrollment of about 17,500, so 3000 is 17% of the student body). The official capacity is listed at 5000. There was a line out the door throughout the 1st period, as the staff was completely overwhelmed.

I've never felt more excitement in my life than after we scored our second goal. The place was electric. Truly the Madhouse on Mercer.

Didn't watch the game, only read the box score, but how did Saulnier get 5 minutes for interference?

He aggressively skated into the guy's path and really lit him up. If he had skated at the guy, it would've been major charging, but he essentially met him at a spot on the ice.

Of that, 3000 were students

where'd you get that from? the student turnout was excellent and loud, don't get me wrong.
but so was the alum/townie/family turnout. plenty of misguided bucknuts too. did you experience the traffic and parking? those weren't students pouring in from off-campus. yep, impressive turnout across the board.
the buzz is back in BG.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

WCHA is #1 & 2 in PWR, not bad for a bunch of not like minded institutions.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

where'd you get that from?

That was tweeted from our bg_creatures Twitter account. I'm not sure where we got it from. Someone may have texted it to us, because we got the total attendance numbers via phone during gameplay.

did you experience the traffic and parking?

I'm part of the Creatures, so I got in an hour before the gates opened to lay down newspapers. :D I only heard stories of the insanity outside.

It's great to see teams in our league doing well and putting the hurt on others. Keep it up. congrats to UAH on a big league win for them looks like they will be winning more games than just one. What was the fan reaction down there geoff.?

Smiles for miles, man. I sat downstairs tonight, so I was able to pop into the concourse right away. There were handshakes, hugs, high-fives, and lots of boisterous conversations. The skate lobby was also a lot of fun, because it's more fun to give happy hugs to players than "you played well, sorry about the result" pats on the shoulder.

Enjoy crying in your beer, Laker fans who chirped on Twitter. :) You're rebuilding, and we know all about that. This year is going to be hard, but it should pay off for you. But don't whine because you lost to UAH.

well, ok, the mister and I are on for the Huntsville games. we are flying to Indy for Thanksgiving and will drive down Friday for the games. am excited to see your team - fond memories of Corbett when he was at Air Force - and very excited to see the arena. do you expect a big crowd? is it cold in there? do they serve beer? we visited Huntsville a few years back and were very impressed by the size, the beauty of the location - it was spring - and the history. cant wait!

Big crowd? No, we'll do well to get 1200 on those nights. The plethora of college football games will hurt us, especially the Iron Bowl (Alabama-Auburn) on Saturday. We will probably be very luck to get 500 people on Saturday as we're right up against the game. I should tell our AD to have the staff let anyone sit downstairs in any non-reserved seat for just that night in an effort to sell more reserved seating. I've typically been a GA guy, but I watched Saturday's tilt from the LW UAH-on-twice corner and really liked it. Thank you, all-access passes!

Cold? Nah, it's 65ºF or so. My very cold-natured girlfriend (who is new to hockey) does not say anything about being cold, and she's not bundled up, either. And as for beer, yes: beer (decent), cider (it's okay), and a limited cocktail menu at the bar in the lobby.

Shoot me a note about where you'll be and I'll come find you. That goes for all of you fine Tech people.

Do we expect a big crowd? Hmmm, I wouldn't expect one, although it's been a while since we hosted on Thanksgiving weekend.* Friday stands to be better, but the Iron Bowl is Saturday night. That's ... not good.

Is it cold in there? It can be, particularly if it's cold outside.

Do they serve beer? Geof can answer. I only visit for two series a year (since I live in North Carolina), and I don't drink, so I'm ignorant in such matters. :)

The arena has gotten a makeover since your last visit -- it's very nice. Hope you enjoy it!

* We haven't hosted games on Thanksgiving weekend since 2002 (attendances were 1,183 and 977 against Niagara for a Saturday-Sunday series). The last time we hosted on Black Friday was 2001 against Sacred Heart (1,612).

Ok, so we're up to three Tech fans at the game. Who else is going?

These games need some hype and a series name. Given that apparently nobody wanted Tech in their conference and UAH just wanted to be in any conference...
The D-I 'Leftovers' the Day after Thanksgiving?

The Huskies should be sporting their "Black Friday" jerseys for this series.
