WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

BG's problem was that they were too sloppy and showed no effort in the second period, and Mankato capitalized on it. BG outplayed Mankato for the first 10 minutes of the game before Mankato finally caught up. I don't know why, but we just can't seem to play a whole game; we take our foot off the gas for the second or third period.

Like Berge said in his post-game interview, Mankato is the bar. We'll know if we're legit contenders tonight, or if we're still rebuilding.
Legit. We came out with a purpose tonight. Mankato's only goal came when they had six skaters on the ice and everybody in the arena saw it except the refs. The assist was actually attributed to the sixth player.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

A lot of fans disguised as seats at the LSSU/UAA game.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Yeah well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man

Who the **** are the Knutsens? I mean, really, do they play defense behind the Fitzgeralds?

So anyway, the 21st of November should be a **** amazing night in the WCHA.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Great week in college hockey. UAH got a tie from a real good NMU team, the league as a whole seems to be doing well, except for Ferris I guess, and if you look around there's a lot of new things going on. I mean BC lost, AF almost beat und and AIC of all people swept! You better look out when you play Bemidji too, they are the real deal; and don't fall behind BG, especially in their rink.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

guess A little bit of Michigans arrogance rubbed off on me this weekend.

what are good hotels close (walking distance) to the Excel? anyone know about Hotel 340? is it close by?

Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza (not sure what the status will be next March) and Hilton Garden Inn are all places I've staped and they are all fine. The Hilton is a bit longer walk, but it isn't too bad.

Have the Fairfield Inn in Cambridge booked for the F4.

A lot of fans disguised as seats at the LSSU/UAA game.
And the way my guys played for 4 1/2 periods of hockey the folks who would have filled those empty seats missed little to cheer about.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

whoa, anybody got the full story?

Nanooks hockey receives a postseason ban this season for the eligibility infractions. Also lose 1 scholarship for 2 years. #WCHA #Nanooks

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

On Nov. 5, UAF received notice from the National Collegiate Athletics Association of penalties stemming from a series of eligibility infractions spanning the 2007-2008 through 2011-2012 academic years. The university discovered the infractions in 2011 and 2012 and self-reported them to the NCAA at the time, in addition to imposing some self-penalties. These new penalties include some of those self-sanctions.

These infractions were due to the university’s failure to establish and maintain adequate systems to ensure that NCAA eligibility was being performed correctly. They are not the result of any wrongdoing by student-athletes.

Since these infractions were first reported, UAF has worked to completely overhaul its eligibility process and controls. Today, our student-athletes have the advising, records and eligibility support they deserve.

Please see the documents below for specific details of the infractions, corrective actions and penalties, as well as other relevant information.

Based on the summary of penalties, the self-reporting and the self-punishment, the post-season ban and additional sanctions are ridiculous.

agreed, hurts a whole lot of innocent people who had nothing to do with it.

so does this include the Final Five, or just the NCAAs?

It is not required to include the WCHA Final Five, but it is likely the WCHA will uphold ban to include Final Five and allow the #9 to enter the playoffs if Alaska finishes top 8 (very likely).

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

In parsing that statement, I think that "These infractions were due to the university’s failure to establish and maintain adequate systems to ensure that NCAA eligibility was being performed correctly," is the key sentence. I'm going to guess that they got kids into UAF that shouldn't have been in school anywhere.

Quoth USCHO: http://www.uscho.com/2014/11/05/aft...ps-postseason-play-and-must-vacate-past-wins/

"In addition, the Nanooks’ hockey program will be sanctioned by awarding one fewer scholarship each year for three years (no credit for one scholarship a year for two years self-imposed), no postseason play for the 2014-15 season and the team must vacate wins, points and individual statistics for ineligible games, including those for coaches and ineligible student-athletes."

I just hope that it doesn't get into a discussion of who should have been ineligible. These guys don't deserve that, and if they got degrees, all the better that they did get in anyway.

Getting them there isn't up to UA_'s Athletic Department. That's covered by the NCAA Clearing House and a pretty obvious Yes/No answer: http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.jsp

This sounds more like they cleared the clearing house, but grades or other issues should have caused them to be ineligible during their attending of UA_.
