WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

haha, I have always paid attention to how it works. Just realizing that without the record vs TUC it is impossible to overcome A lower RPI without playing head to head.
Huh. If I had some more time I'd take a look. Very interesting. I wonder if looking at past data would clarify what happens? It just doesn't seem like it's an issue come selection Sunday, or maybe it just gets brushed away as "simple math."

Now I'm intrigued.

And what a place that is.......overpriced " Granny" crap inside and loose sled dog crap covering the gravel, pot hole filled lot...Just awonderfull place to be.

So we tried to stick you in the Santa Land RV Park. Get over it already.
Let's move it over to the "hate" thread so The Mighty Seawolf sweep at their barn can be properly rubbed in.

Re: WCHA 2014-15: Semi-colons make things seem important

Hey guys, I was looking at the PWR table and I noticed something. Now that they've gotten rid of the TUC cliff, everything is basically by an extremely flawed RPI calc. The only way to win a comparison over a team that has a superior RPI is to have played them. There is only RPI (1 point), Common Opps (1 point) and Head to Head (1 point for each win). If you haven't played head to head it is impossible to overcome a superior RPI by simply having a better record against Common Opps. Seems pretty flawed to me, not that I liked the TUC cliff but it provided a way to overcome the flawed RPI. Am I missing something?
Is that really surprising, or unexpected? I have always thought that the PWR were just RPI, with some provisions to make sure that head to head matchups matter more. Yeah, there's the common opponents, but I've never thought that a better record against common opponents should mean more than the computer rankings. Its essentially computer rankings, but if you win head-to-head, you can jump teams.

i can't argue with this except I think RPI is just about as flawed as it gets so I don't "trust" the computer, especially in hockey where it isn't 25/50/25
