Guentzel applied for the UNO job earlier in the summer, so its pretty obvious he wants a college head coaching gig. I'd say this is another step in that direction.Seems like a step back. I wonder if his kid was less than enthused about having Dad as a coach? Hope it works for him.

Exactly. He has paid his dues for a long time in the profession at a variety of levels. These guys almost all want to be head coaches and run their own show - who can blame them for that?
Absolutely! The question is does he continue to try a find a WCHA/CCHA job or does he go out east?
Now Coltojn St. Clair decommits from CC for UND, rough summer for the Tigers.
Coltojn? Is that the Native American spelling of his name?
I'm sure Mike Guentzel will miss D1 though, which was his first preference for head coaching. The USHL is a step down. He might be back in D1 someday who knows?
.Bruce McLeod, the commish of the WCHA, said he is meeting with Xcel Energy Center administrators on Friday to discuss the future of the Final Five.
The Final Five, of course, is the three-day, five-team conference tournament held at the X.
The format of the tournament undoubtedly will chance after this season because, starting in 2010-11, the WCHA will have 12 teams with the addition of Bemidji State and Nebraska-Omaha.
“We’re going to work out the logistics,’ McLeod said.
He said six teams will be advancing to the tournament in 2011, and there probably will be two games on Thursday, two semifinals on Friday and a championship game on Saturday, with the third-place game eliminated.
In that scenario, McLeod said, keeping the Final Five name makes sense. There would be five final games, he said, and there is some brand value in not changing the name
Final Five name is the best choice for the tournament. Eliminating the third place game might hurt a team trying to get into the NCAA tournament, but I say eliminate it and qualify some other way.
.
Heh, now the complaints will start that Minnesota always gets the night game on Thurs. AND Friday.
I can hardly wait.

Yeah, and they play on Minnesota's home ice.

I wonder how folks are going to feel about extra Thursday time though? It's a longer weekend now.
3rd place game has been a debacle of epic proportions over the years anyway.
I like keeping the name. Has a different meaning now, but I like it. I wonder how folks are going to feel about extra Thursday time though? It's a longer weekend now.
