WCHA 09-10 Thread

Re: WCHA 09-10 Thread

Certainly you've heard that the NHL was a Canadian league. Remember when there were 6 teams.QUOTE]

I guess that's why 4 of the original 6 were in the USA. :D

Actually the term "Original 6" is misleading. Those teams are merely the teams that played from 1942-1967.

The orininal NHL consisted of the Montreal Canadians, Ottawa Senators, Toronto St. Pats and Montreal Wanderers.

Boston did not join the league until 1924, with New York, Detroit and Chicago the following two years.

So actually Grantfan is correct by stating that it started as a Canadian League.

Well he's not a John Moore, but what can you expect when you go bargain hunting at the end-of-the-year closeout:

Doug Leaverton

"Cedar Rapids RoughRiders defenseman Doug Leaverton has committed to Colorado College, the RoughRiders announced today. Leaverton will begin his college career in the fall.
...
Leaverton, 20, scored one goal and totaled four points while posting a plus/minus rating of +7 in 52 games with the RoughRiders last season. Over two seasons in Cedar Rapids, the Painesville, Ohio, native collected seven points and was a +19 while playing a total of 72 games."

The article mentions a strong potential upside. Let's hope so...

Go Tigers!

Rough Riders Jersey

<table><tr><td>Yeah, Tech had a guy that played for them. I state that as past tense with good reason - I guess the ride at Tech was a bit rough too as he moved on to that other UP school (where he played a whopping 6 games) after one season with the Huskies. Too bad because he showed promise.<tr><td align=center> <h2>Phil Axtell - "One and Done"</h2><a target=_blank href="http://www.johnsonsjerseys.net/hockey/misc/ced44_f.jpg"><img src="http://www.johnsonsjerseys.net/hockey/misc/ced44_f_sm.jpg"></a> <a target=_blank href="http://www.johnsonsjerseys.net/hockey/misc/ced44_b.jpg"><img src="http://www.johnsonsjerseys.net/hockey/misc/ced44_b_sm.jpg"></a></td></tr></table>

Re: WCHA 09-10 Thread

I was not sure what thread this ended up in so i'll post it here and let people move it to there respective threads... SCSU could be a solid team if they get the goaltending...

Goaltendiong won't be the problem. Weslosky says he is coming back and I am sure Lee will play close to half the games as long as he lives up to the hype. The problem with this team is a consistant effort every night. They took way to many nights off last year and the effort was flat out poor on many of those nights. They have the talent to be a WCHA contender. Now we need to see if Motzko can coach all that talent and make them into a team.

So in his first paragraph he talks about how exciting it is that some "different schools have a chance to make a splash". He talks about recruits at SCS and Harvard, and then he mentions BC and Mich. How are BC and Mich "different schools"?

hahaha, yeah i'm not sure what point he was trying to make with the article. But Hey that could be the most talk of college hockey that the hockey news does all year so i thought i'd post it. they really don't try to cover NCAA hockey at all because it is a canada publication...

What more do you want? The horse is holding his stick...

How about a picture of a condom with a circle and a line through it?

2 of the 4 teams mentioned were schools that you don't normally think of as having one of the top incoming classes, and he even said "here are some freshman classes – from both traditional and non-traditional powers – that have me intrigued this season." I'm impressed that he took the time to look outside of the usual suspects and wrote about 2 smaller schools.
