If the wife , the next morning tells you how you were talking in your sleep about the Bears PP.
National Championship game at Plattsburgh State1987Oswego 3-Plattsburgh 8. One win but the BIG One!
10-4 Russell........but dont get me startedI can't believe you had the balls to bring that up, considering no justification whatsoever can be used to claim that national title.

I guess we will see when the book comes out. Like Ive always said, what Plattsburgh was found of doing is crap compared to what other schools do and get away with. Fact is all of those players were coming to Plattsburgh no matter what. Fact is THEY won a chamionship. Call it cheating all you want but everyone from that team knows they were National Champs that year and thats all that matters. Yet in todays world we can allow schools to give out finacial aid packages which cover many more the amount of what was given in the 80's. We allow players to sell jerseys, rings, ect for free services with a slap on the wrist. If making fun of something because your team got beat makes you sleep better at night, whatever floats your boat. Birds is one of the few thats been around since that time, she like I and many others will always care less what the ***** little # means next to 1987.
They were NOT minor technicalities. There was some very serious sh*t that took place there. You don't need a book. Just read the NCAA report.
(Hint -- they were given FREE HOUSING. Go ask Reggie Bush and USC how serious that is...)
Again, no justification, including your lame diatribe, can possibly attempt to claim that national title is valid in any way, shape, or form.
and several schools give out free housing today too...I know whats in the reports. And I also know only one side of the story was ever told. And if you dont think other places were doing/still bending rules get your head out of the sand. Like I said, wait for the book....maybe you will see how much of a joke things were for their punishment. Fact is no matter what the "gifts" were, these players were coming to Plattsburgh. Its funny how these gifts made them come to Plattsburgh, but other schools give you free housing, set up jobs, lower tuition ....but that has nothing to do with them going to that school...righ?
Ok my 2 cents...I played on the Oz 87team,made the all final 4 tournament team by the way, ok I wont pull a muscle patting myself on the back...when we lost it hurt bad, real bad...but a yr or so later when I read in the NY Times about the violations, it made it hurt even worse......bottom line time heals MOST wounds and we move on, so lets do that.......just like OSU2010 said...lets have a good season with a strong SUNYAC showingI think in this case the reason they were given the violation is they were giving people free housing BECAUSE they were hockey players. There's nothing wrong with giving students free housing, but when you disproportionately give free housing to one group over another then it unfair. So if the hockey players are getting free housing at a much higher rate than the student body in general then its an unfair advantage. If I have the choice of going to two different schools everything else being the same and one offers free housing I'd go to the school with free housing. It also helps with retention, why would a student transfer to another school when they have free housing at the school they're at?
I feel at this point we should just let it die, we're bringing up something that happened almost 25 years ago. I think this horse has probably been beat to death by now.
When you can still sleep easy at night knowing your alma mater has beaten its arch-rival five straight times.
After many many years of following Cardinal hockey and being at that game I will always feel the same. That championship was won fairly and I have no interest in drudging up anything about violations nor do I care. I really am sorry you felt my diatribe was lame but I thought it was valid. Didn't mean to get your shorts in a bunch. I enjoy the banter with the Oswego fans and was just continuing it on the topic at hand. Looking forward to further discussions on this year's hockey with everyone, that is if you don't remove me because I disagree with your point of view.
