Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Was the last weekend of the regular season so long ago?
UVM wasn't intimidated in the least about playing the #2 team in HE and my team almost left Vermont with a lonely point.
Both of these teams match up really well I think and I'm hoping for some great hockey.
I'm just hoping Hoffman doesn't play as well at the Tsongas as he did at home.

Friday can't get here soon enough as far as I'm concerned.

Heading to the games this weekend with the family. Anyone know of a kid friendly restaurant within walkin distance to Tsongas Arena? Any recommendations would be great.

Go Cats!

Lowell Beerworks isn't too bad and that is easily walkable.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

The one fact that is being overlooked here is that UVM has nothing to lose and everything to gain. UML should beat UVM... its the 2 seed versus the 7 seed... at Tsongas where UML has been "lights out" since november. Should be two easy wins for Lowell. They should come out playing hard, determined and to some degree at ease.

The other obvious thing missing in this discussion is that UVM should be heading to Lowell with some confidence after nearly taking 3 points from the 2nd place team. On the other hand Lowell should be a bit shaken... they very nearly came out of their last weekend of play winless against the very team they are playing.

The caveat on that is that they could have scored 5 goals in the 1st game. They might have confidence in the sense that a bounce here and a bounce there and it could have been a blowout.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

100% kid friendly. I would try to get there by 5:00 if you are able to. The place starts to get very packed by 5:30-6.

This. If you're not in the door by 5:00pm, you could be looking at a very kid unfriendly hour+ wait. :)

You are so correct a bounce here or there and Vermont could have swept that weekend.

Usually yes. Hell, some games this year, by 4:30, there was a line. I don't expect huge crowds this weekend (as is the norm for the HE playoffs), but I'd definitely try and get there by 5, as suggested.

Does the Tsongas Center still serve beer?
It's been a long time since I've been there but I seem to remember they served beer.

Yes they definitely serve beer and wine too (I believe). Lot's of variety of beer too scattered around the concourse.

Also below the Sage Bank Pavillion (Section 124) you'll see a doorway with sign above that says Talon Club Open to Public. It's not actually always open to the public, but if it is, you'll find a full bar inside as well.

Yes, it's a pretty solid selection of craft beer too. No worries, if you're looking for slightly tinted water stuff, they have that too. :D

I wish UVM would sell beer... they do in the Bostwick Room if you are a VC member but that place is always packed to the hilt and actually viewing the game can be tough at time. It would be nice to be able to sit in the stands and enjoy a beer. They should serve beer and put all of the proceeds into a new arena fund. They could make a mint if they worked out a deal for Heady Topper.

Honestly I just can't see the Gutt being a good place for adult beverages. The benches are pretty narrow for seats and I could easily see everything getting bumped and sloshed around.

I DO wish you guys the best of luck in getting a new arena tho. The arena is the only reason I don't like going up there for games.

It was bad when I was there...and that was in the LeClair days.. and he has gone on to have a HOF career and retire....

If the Beerworks is too crowded, then Cobblestones on Dutton Street is a good place to eat and is not too far from Tsongas.

Not to go off subject with a John LeClair discussion, but he was not HoF worthy. Close, he was a very good player not a great player. Of course injuries slowed him down at the end of his career, but you can say that about a lot of very good players.

I think the last two Left Wingers to get in the HoF were Shannahan and Robitaille, both had much better numbers than LeClair:

Shannahan - 1500 games, 650 goals, 1350 points
Robitaille - 1400 games, 650 goals, 1400 points
LeClair -1000 games, 400 goals, 800 points

Again, I think LeClair was very good. He just didn't do it long enough.

I would take Shanahan over LeClair but LeClair over Robitaille. He was the 1st American born player with three 50 goal seasons. Also to put it in another light.

Robitaille +76
Shanahan + 148
LeClair +206

That +206 is about 50th all time and about the same as Messier, higher than Yzerman, Gainey, Carbonneau, Esposito, Zetterberg

+/- can be deceiving:
LeClair is 58th all time in +/-
Eric Lindros is 49th, he's not HoF worthy either.

Brian Propp has similar stats to LeClair. Is 25th all time in +/- with a +327. Is he hall worthy?
