Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Maybe a bit early to speculate, but it seems like we might have a sticky situation at goalie in the coming weeks. Seems like we have two starters on the team.

Just an FYI...
USHR ‏@USHRhockey 7m
Mitch Ferguson 94 D (Salmon Arm-BCHL) has committed to the UVM for next fall. 1-11-12 in 16 games played. @bchllive

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

I wonder if UVM can just start to decline the penalties like in football and just opt to play 5-5?

Okay all you Complainers ... tell us what was wrong with that effort! Down 2-0 they come back to win 5-2! Will that keep the wolves away from the door at least until the Notre Dame series next week? We can only hope!

You beat a glorified D3 team, but get excited if you want. Notre Dame is going to eat you for lunch.

UVM used have trouble with Middlebury back in the day.... as for lunch eating let's see what happens when they lace them up...most likely ND will sweep or win/tie..but that's why they play the game..

A D3 team with more NHL draft picks than Vermont has. And a nice home crowd advantage to boot but I quess you just cant please
those who can only please themselves.

You're wrong on the draft picks PSU has 2 and UVM has 3.

I'm sure all Vermont fans hope you're as accurate about the upcoming weekend as you are in your statement: PSU NHL draft picks, all of whom played Saturday, Koudys (Washington), Williamson (Vancouver), Gardiner (St. Louis), McAdam (NY Islanders).

The pp is now at 8.7 percent!! No psu is a team they should beat and puts in perspective how bad the loss was last year. And using draft picks is comical. Obviously the nhl scouts are wrong often.

It's never going to be great. It's clear the coaching staff does not know how to coach a team to be effective on the power play. The comments early from Peter Wallack demonstrated that. But, we can and have had good PK's in the past. If they play good 5 on 5 and kill 90+%, then a PP over 10% will be good enough for me. But only if 5 on 5 and the PK are where they should be...

But, I do think the PP is a slight improvement over last year. Still not good but an improvement. Lots of Frosh on the ice and it's early. Give them a chance to gel and see where things are after that.

Certainly nothing to complain about. This was a game we should have won, and we did, so that's a good sign, particularly after being in a hole early. It'll be interesting to see if we can hang with Notre Dame this weekend as they make their HE debut. The Gut should be rockin and, based on little more than a hunch, I see us winning one of the two games. Wish I could be there--should be fun.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

Have the updated files and Maine is now 23rd in the pairwise, up from 25. The new #1 is Providence.

Other Hockey East teams:
#8 - Notre Dame
#14 - Northeastern
#18 - Boston College
#20 - Vermont
#28 - New Hampshire
#29 - Lowell
#36 - Boston University
#47 - Merrimack
#48 - UMass

Denver is sitting at #40.

Still insanely early but worth keeping track of how much the list changes week to week with the new criteria.

This was posted on the Maine thread. Currently is 20th in the PWR (5th in HE) ahead of BU / UNH / and LOWELL. There will be lots of movement throughout the season, but UVM ahead of Lowell just made my day.

Re: Vermont 2013-2014 Season Thread : The Golden Year

If that makes you happy you have about three more days to enjoy this season.

Cats did not look all that great to me vs. PSU. PSU netminder was questionable at best. Cats will get run out of the building by ND unless they step it up.

.

It made my day. Today. Not the season. How about a little bit of optimism? It's kinda like saying well Jay got snow, but it's ****ty to ski on.... It isn't even November yet
