UWS Hockey

Re: UWS Hockey

upfan, I guess we'll see very soon. :) All I can tell you is that I've been pretty closely affiliated with this program -- including 5 years as a player (redhirt) and a few more as an assistant (I earned my degree there) -- since 1987. I still live in the general area and continue to be very connected to many involved with my alma mater. In fact, I'm still very involved in many levels of the game below and above Div. III college. Trust me, my sources are awfully close to the selection process. Obviously, anything is possible. However, IF Mr. Peart is selected, then the committee is doing so without him doing an on campus interview. Which would be awfully surprising. Just looking at Mr. Peart's coaching resume' and, comparing that to the others being considered, he's simply not as qualified as the other 3 that I've been told have been on campus. Quite frankly, if he is selected, I'll be quite disappointed as will many of the other alumni I know. It doesn't mean I couldn't be converted if he does well but, my initial reaction would not be positive.

Re: UWS Hockey

No worries Bradz.... :) I really try not to take anything I read on here too personally. Here's the latest I can provide -- apparently, although the goal was to have an accepted offer by the end of this week and an announcement sometime next week, it doesn't look as though that will probably happen. Again, anything is possible but, it's a good assumption we won't hear anything until next week. I can honesty say I have no other info at this point. Obviously, if something breaks that I'm allowed to pass along, I will do so.

EDIT: Let me "rephrase" a bit. I was wrong to use the phrase "that I'm allowed to pass along" as that probably gives the impression I have a direct involvement with the process or that my sources do. I can genuinely and honestly say that is NOT the case. Neither I or my sources are directly involved. Instead, I'll say that I'll pass anything along I feel comfortable in doing so... :)

I understood where you were coming from. It is a tough call with so little money. I'm sure Ward turned it down when he asked "How much? in the phone interview" :)

UWS will have to try and pick someone willing to live a low budget life for a few years while at the same time building a winning program for a move up...it isn't easy to find young coaches like that these days.

Re: UWS Hockey

Why all the wait? It's not like is the men's gopher job or umd women's for that matter. Name a coach already.

Re: UWS Hockey

guess we just looking for a name

Well...you might check with "net presence" it sounds like he has the inside track. Of course with a name like "net presence" he/she could be a goalie, and you should never trust a goalie! :) :)

Re: UWS Hockey

Thanks Norm...that was insightful.

Net presence, any news? Why the wait? Is it Kivihalme or Esse? Negotiations going on with possible new coach?

Bush league by a once proud program. The wild hire a coach within a week yet no news out of Superior, prime recruiting time with playoffs esp in NAHL, what a disservice to the new coach, whos running the search committee Donald Duck, Bozo The Clown? very very sad and a bad knock on the University!!

Hiring protocols at state schools are usually governed by strict guidelines and procedures. They can't just hire Mike Yeo out of thin air and offer him a salary to match his pay as coach of the Wild. You can't just grab a coach and hire him. Furthermore, if a search is declared failed (which it sounds like this one was), there is a procedure to be followed. Hiring in DIII is closer to the procedures in academia - now for professional level College sports (DI FB,BB) protocols can be violated and nobody cares, but for a part time DIII coach you have to dot i's and cross t's even if you don't want to. Academic hiring decisions are always made after shopping at Red Tape R Us.
