UVM Offseason 2023

All I can say is this better not be some kind of over-the-top effort to do the right thing that borders on being woke, if not outright woke. In other words, Woodcroft’s conduct, whatever it was, better have been super egregious.

Agree with those who said UVM’s a joke. I’m preparing for a mass exodus of players and the next ten years at the bottom of the HE barrel.

Sooooo...Maybe in hindsight we should've gone with Barr.

Looks like another rebuild on the way. Maybe Weidler turns out to be the guy, but I could see a situation where a whole bunch of players start leaving. This athletic department is a joke.

How do you blame Woodcroft's actions on the athletic department???? Obviously, a complaint was filed and the UNIVERSITY had no choice but to take action, which means their hands were tied.

If this were an isolated incident I would agree with you, but it's not. They botched the Anthony Lamb rape accusation, they've botched the arena development, and it's pretty clear they botched this hire. It's good they've been so forthright and decisive in this decision but it's too late. Schulman has to go.

C'mon are we really throwing words like "woke" around?

It's true we don't have all the answers yet, and I personally don't think Woodcroft is some serial sex predator, but in any university job it's day 1 HR lesson: Don't fool around with students. It's not difficult. It's not some liberal conspiracy folks.

Miltenberg has created a nice cottage industry suing universities on behalf of males (mostly athletes) suspended for rape/misconduct allegations, so I'm sure the facts will come out.

What if "the facts come out" and no one reports on them? Who's gonna dare buck UVM in a college town like Burlington??

Not saying it is, but you also have to consider how universities handle stuff like this these days, and sometimes it's to the detriment of the accused. Then you also have the attorney's statement, suggesting there wasn't due process, and you kind of have to wonder....

Hopefully more facts will come out over time. I actually hope Woodcroft's behavior was super egregious, because then he'll have no one to blame but himself.

First and foremost, I want to see the facts. If Woodcroft did something wrong, and the initial data we've seen so far certainly leans heavily in that direction, then he got what is coming to him. As was previously stated, in this instance, if he was texting with a student in an inappropriate way and that student complains....it is game over. And rightfully so, that student deserves action from the school.

If the facts are less damning when they come out, then that would open up an entire other set of conversations around college wokeness gone wild, poor management of the athletic program (with a few supporting incidents we are all aware of), etc. I personally believe this is the less likely outcome, but unfortunately given UVMs longstanding track record of catering to fringe liberal agendas, and mediocre at best athletic department management, I can't completely rule this out. But again, this angle of "the administration made a mistake here" seems like a long shot to me at this point.

Regarding the hockey program......I'm at a loss. We are almost back, IMO. I personally think we are on the cusp of making some huge steps forward this year. The talent level coming is is simply better than it has been, and we already have some really solid players on the roster. If we avoid this turning into an exodus, I still think we are on the right track. I think it depends on the relationship the recruits have with Wielder...if he can hold this together he's in a great spot and I think success is on the way. If he can't, then the program is headed for dark days again.

I haven't. What do you mean?

UVM has zero credibility in the community. The administration is constantly under scrutiny for not providing enough student housing, tax breaks, terrible response to sexual assault, cutting academic programs...

The point is even if Burlington is the image of a progressive college town, the college still takes plenty of heat.

As for Woodcroft, even if the text seem to be relatively harmless, this is a situation that speaks to extreme lack of judgment from someone who is supposed to be leading the hockey program.

I am rooting for Wiedler and these players. Seems like a well thought of coach at AIC and had a big role as the assistant under Woodcroft. Have to let it ride this season and hope we lucked in to someone who can keep the momentum going.

A lot of times when you’re texting you might be in a meeting, on the phone, driving, etc and they might not be completely thought out. You can have generational/cultural differences too. If he said something truly offensive or whatever he definitely should be fired but if this is some sort of open to interpretation situation the school should be embarrassed.

Watcher mentioned the accused cashing in but I believe the accusers have as well.

Can't judge the Woodcroft case -- as many of you have said, there's much we don't know -- but a lot of these college "investigations" of late have had Star Chamber undertones.

Seriously....By all means let's just make this political (smdh). Geesh.
