UVM 2018-19: This is so sad Alex play Esposito

Re: UVM 2018-19: This is so sad Alex play Esposito

I thought last year was gonna be a make-or-break season for Sneddon, and then Schulman extends him for no apparent reason, at a time when the team absolutely sucked!

The weird bit was the timing. Reading Ryan's story over again, it seems as though they'd agreed to it in the summer, coming off a 20 win season, their third in four years. People could probably tolerate that. But when you announce it halfway through a lost season...oof

I thought last year was gonna be a make-or-break season for Sneddon, and then Schulman extends him for no apparent reason, at a time when the team absolutely sucked! So, do I think next year is a big one for Sneddon? Probably not. He seems to get the benefit of the doubt regardless of what wins and losses and other empirical evidence should tell a logical athletic director. A lot of people admonish the big-time programs in college athletics (the so-called “football factories” etc.), and at times for good reason, but one thing you have to admire is their complete intolerance for losing. UVM needs just a little of that right now.

After the Men's Basketball loss to Bucknell, Coach Becker was clearly infuriated. Look at what the team has done since then. I wonder how long it would take for Becker to learn hockey basics......

Women's hockey blew out Yale at Ingalls 5-1 this afternoon. Feels like things are starting to come together for them - took a while, but it's happening nonetheless.

Because Becker held them accountable and that's the key. In that presser he basically went "step up or we'll find someone else who will". Next game, different starting 5.

It doesn't look like it's going to go your way tonight at CC - the UVM fan sitting near me just bolted for the exit - but what a game for Lekkas...

Just 1:30 into the first period and he had five saves - with three grade A stops. CC hasn't let up much, if at all, since then, but he has been rock solid. He has 35 saves as I type and probably has made a few more that he hasn't been credited with. If he just plays well, CC probably has 7-8 by now. Very impressive...

Until tonight I'd only ever seen him on video against UNH - worth the price of admission...

---

And right after posting this O'Neill scores an EAG. Back within one...

That's just a typical Lekkas night. Poor kid.

Haha, regarding Lekkas, you can say that of most UVM games!

CC’s 41 SOG’s is their second highest for a game this season, surpassed only by a game against mighty AL Huntsville. The Cats have allowed an epically high number of SOG’s this season!

9th worst team in unblocked shot attempts for % this season. 8th worst in shot attempts for % (including blocks).

Thinking on shots, basically two kinds: Grade As and just get it on net. Many of ours are from the top of circles or blue line with no traffic in front. That is basically a turnover - unless just looking for a change and offensive zone face off. Too often, just a turn over. Last night, I thought we had a few grade A chances. And capitalized a few times. The key to scoring when you don't have true "scorer's touch" players is not shooting more but looking for good plays and / or traffic. That starts with possession. Like last night with the first goal nice play and second goal snipe from the slot.

We give up too many Grade A's. I see teams making plays on us. Open shots from slot, walking our D to create a 1-0s or 2-0s, or their stick one stride in front of our D for bang bang plays in front of the net. Imagine what some of our loss scores could have been? D zone play this year is a little better than last. But if you're not going to score, no goalie can steal that many games. D zone responsibility needs to improve. In the O zone, I'd rather have more attempts at plays and REAL scoring chances than shots into the chest from the top of the circles.

Not sure how far this team can go. There is certainly some talent and things can shift. If not, the Ws won't be coming often. Still rooting despite what I see. Love the play of some on this team. I guess that what being a fan means.

I love the program, but hate the stagnation and lack of direction from the top. The fans and the players (past/present/future) deserve a new direction, new vision, and new energy. Schulman...this isn’t about hurting the feelings of one guy. Do what clearly needs to be done for the sake of this program.

Well, I hope he keeps playing well for you all - starting tonight. I know what it's like - as a UNH fan - to watch some struggling teams, and being able to enjoy a superior player like Poturalski, Kelleher or Gildon certainly helps, at least a little bit...

I also really liked your versions of Esposito and Cippolone, as well as Massie last night. Won't be attending tonight, but hope you pull it out...

48 saves on 49 shots. Amazing, Stefanos!

I’m of the opinion that nearly every player on this team is worth watching, under different leadership. The only position not under the umbrella of a “system”...is goaltender.
