UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Any guesses on who sits tonight? I would like to see Massie in the line up and have either Daigle or O'Donnell take the night off. it will also be interesting to see if Sneddon swaps out an entire line again

No way it should be Daigle.. he is way better tha O'Donnell

Wow.

I felt like I was watching one of last years games.
Bad passing, lack of creativity, dumb penalties, bad breakouts, poor zone entry or simple dump without thought....etc...
I hope a shakeup happened. UML is a good team, breakdowns like that cant happen.
Maybe the cats should try to play like the first couple shifts last night. Good aggression and forecheck and better puck possession.

Thanks for the observations. Was wondering what some VT fans thought of last night's game, only took around 17 hours. Just thought there'd be more of a buzz around the team given the unexpected, great start they've had.

I thought it took Lowell a bit to get on track last night but thought the VT goalie overall had a pretty good night. Moves around a bit too much unnecessarily but thought he was solid overall.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

UML is by far the best defensive team they have faced so far. That said when they cut the lead to 2-1 and then followed with the
worst shift of the game you could see the end had arrived. Hopefully they make a few more plays tonight and grab a split.

Corey Moriarty had a tough night -2 and struggled. Could not find any faceoff stats but I dont remember us winning many.

W+F. Are we back to the same old ****!!! So frustrating. Did not see the game but assume we are back to Sneddon hockey. Might be time to kick the hazing boys off the team. We played better without them.

Beat me to it. Probably something to the troublemaker thing 🙂

High hopes and frustration talking here. The key will be if they can bounce back.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Anybody have any thoughts on how Santa played last night? I didnt see the game, just curious about where the goaltending situation is heading. His numbers from last night don't look great but the highlights suggest he saw some quality chances...

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

1-5 on PP vs 3-5 was the difference last night. Penalty kill has actually been okay this year so hopefully they can bounce back there. From the highlights most of UMLs goals last night seemed to be great individual plays where one of their players managed to drive through the D and then beat Santa 1 on 1 at the net.

According to the stats we outshot them but I didn't watch the game so I don't know how good our looks were compared to theirs. I did watch the first night and that game looked relatively evenly matched but UML made a few less mistakes and capitalized on their opportunities better than UVM. It didn't look like we went away from what we have been trying to do all season on offense it just looked like UML had more success stopping it than previous opponents.

UMass Lowell is deservedly number 6 in the country and while it would have been nice to take a game off of them I don't think getting swept there is a definitive sign that the improved play we have seen up to this point is a fluke. I hope the Cats can learn from it and focus in on UMass because we are going to need all the HE pts we can get.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Big game this weekend. To me this will tell us how far this team will go. This is a should win game, and the Cats need to come out strong and hard and take care of business. Many times in the past we've seen them play to the level of their competition and squeak out a win or even lose. Good teams never let up no matter who they are playing. We will see if they sit back and coast or put the game away early and keep pounding away after that.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

I think the extra day to regroup will do them good. Maybe we will see a new look going forward.

Didn't see the game last night, but I'm more than a bit concerned the offense is returning to its regular, non-productive ways. Power play has been nonexistent and they're not converting opportunities. Only 5 goals in 3 games since the return of our "scorers." They got the win and I'm happy for that, but there are some definite warning signs for how this season is shaping up.

Great to get a win but your concern is warranted. Several of the suspended players are not pass first guys and the amount of offensive zone pressure that was generated during the first five games is absent as bad shots are being taken and pucks skated into the corner rather than passed to an open teammate. The same guys are trotted out on the power play. Some played it last year as well when UVM was near the bottom of the NCAA. How about some new alignments and someone at the point who can actually shoot the puck. The O'Donnell era is baffling still.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Glad to see the team pick up the win. That pushes the OOC record to 4-1-1 against some pretty stiff competition. That should go along ways in the PWR. Now as long as they can take care of business in HE... two against Maine coming up. They should be taking 4 pts here... anything less than 3 will be disappointing, although UMO managed to take one off Lowell so the Cats need to be prepared.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Any news on Bowen? Really liked the line combinations last night:

Privitera/Puffer/Puskarich
Bradley/Darrar/Bowen
Alvaro/Colton/Forgione - hope this line stays together for the rest of the year
Shaw/Lodermeier/Coughlin
