Great Weekend!

Saw the NU game live and thought after the first few shifts we would have no chance to match their speed, but we hung in there.
The Gaudette/Sikura combo are as quick and skilled as any in Hockey East. They might be a little too aggressive and that helped the Cats. They took a lot of shots wide and over the net, but were great at making space for themselves. NU didn't seem to have the depth that UVM had.

As far as our D getting skated around a few times, they also had active sticks that tipped/blocked shots after getting beat on foot.
The forwards are great at coming back and helping this year for the most part. (there are always a few guys that turn up ice a little prematurely).
Our D also seem to be 'getting pucks through' on shots from the point. Not always on net, but at least not an instant turnover.

Nitpicking a little, early in the game we missed chances to get the puck deep and 'go to work' on the forecheck. Those turnovers led to bad changes and/or some primo scoring chances that Lekkas bailed them out on.
Maybe the goals were not highlight reel wristers or full ice dekes, but they were earned. Nice crashing the net goals or protecting and being patient for the 5 hole winner.
Hope even more offense comes when Bradley and Mario really get their legs and the freshmen phenoms get going.

Let's hope they dont stall out next week at Tsongas.

I love our team character right now as well. Very blue collar with an edge of mischief!

Any insight on Shaw being out on Sunday? Obviously someone had to sit, but surprised it was him... I know he can take some stupid penalties, but his size and physicality is an advantage.

Exactly, CatClass08. I'm hopeful things are going to be different, but I need some more evidence. Looking forward to the weekend and having me show them I don't know what I'm talking about!

Sneddon sat the whole line (Darrar/Shaw/Bowen).

UML will be a tough pair of games. I think a split is reasonable, but certainly be a sweep in either direction depending on play.

The Middle and bottom feeders go up real slow and drop real fast.

I'm a little worried about this weekend. Our home ice advantage is huge these days but we laid a serious egg Friday night in Omaha. How many of you folks are coming down?

Ouch... Although Trump speaking at your rink may be worse than this. Seems like really bad karma. Tsongas may be cursed now.

Trump paid to speak there. I have no issue with lowell taking his money. Maybe you guys would have a new arena by now if anyone wanted to use any of your facilities

Don't know if any of you guys listened to Sneddon interview from page 1 link, but I was really disappointed in his comments regarding our facilities. He seemed to be implying that we are going to do renovations on the Gut. Talked a lot about what a special environment it is on game night, etc. I love the Gut, we all love the Gut. But the Gut is not Fenway park. The Gut does not win us recruits over the beautiful new facilities top tier programs have. We need to do the right thing and get a new arena, not renovate the Gut. I think that'd be a big mistake, unless it was done fantastically well.

UVM is now doing this because they finally realized after long years that they cannot fundraise the money for it because not enough people with big pockets care and they will not get state funding and the South Burlington plan is pretty much already dead. They have no choice but to renovate simply have no money to build a new arena and never will. Been talking about it for 15 years with no progress and in the process let facilities rot because Corran was hellbent on the arena being his legacy and couldn't get it done. No such thing as the right thing here when you have no money to do the "right thing"

Also rich coming from Sneddon who for years blamed Gutterson for all his recruiting problems and why the team isnt good which was a stupid excuse for reasons pointed out here many times based on other teams who won national titles with not great arenas so now change of tune? Yup typical Sneddon

Also still a Sneddon hater here for that person that asked and its a long season. Nice start for the cats but we've seen this movie before too.

Um, I don't think this is the case at all.

A.) UVM could fundraise if they wanted. The main problem being crucified in the media for spending that much money on an arena instead of lowering the cost to attend. They have several million ear marked for the arena as is without any type of serious fundraising effort. A few million, which is a far cry from the 60 or so they need, but that's largely been without asking for donations.

B.) I wouldn't count the S. BTV plan out just yet. The voters will decide that next week. From the Seven Days article it appeared that both BTV and S. BTV wanted the facility, but S.BTV had a better plan and is "more" interested.

They say what a special place the Gutt is to play at every season. Because it is. When it's rocking it's a pretty cool place to be. Further, doing renovations does not in anyway imply a new arena will not be built. The Gutt is staying with a new arena, so it only makes sense to renovate it. Just because there is a new arena doesn't mean you let the current one fall apart.
