UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

Dumb take? You're right. If we could host the series, we'd dispel the myth that you spoiled teams (especially BC) have created. We would sell it out. Even on spring break.

I understand it's tough for you to grasp how the other half lives when you are the one living in the outhouse. Just like how it is tough for a BC fan to grasp how anyone could root for such a bad hockey product that UVM produces (good for you?!).

That being said, I hope your unsupported contention that UVM would sell out a series makes you happy. Because your team came to Conte Forum with an NCAA bid in-hand (or close to it) and elephant-walked out of Conte Forum with nothing. Better luck next year.

And one more thing... it's g**** embarrassing to see the players on the UVM bench constantly going apechit when a player blocks a shot. It's like a parent patting the kid on the back for spelling his name right on a test with no right answers. Give the kid a tap on the helmet when he gets back to the bench like every other team does. This is D1 hockey, everyone on every team is blocking shots when they can.

--This whole thing about attendance is pointless. Who the heck cares? (and I'm aware you're not the one who brought this up)
--Agree that until we've been there and done that, we probably shouldn't be pounding our chests.
--Agree that we got taken to the woodshed by BC last weekend.

Good luck to you guys here on out.

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Go Cats Go!

I have been researching every Hockey East's home game attendance and I have almost complete game by game attendance going back to the start of the 2002 and that includes Vermont's attendance when they were in the ECAC. Boston College has hosted 32 quarterfinal games in 14 of those 16 years with an average attendance of 3,113. On a year by year average this year's average was 9th out of 14 and the lowest since 2008. That is on par with the overall league average attendance placement of 9th out of 16. This year's postseason average of 2,783 was a drop of 43.7% from their regular season average 4,945. The 43.7% drop between regular season and post season average was the 5th best at BC out of 14 years. However, 2014 (vs Notre Dame) and 2016 (vs Vermont) were their best ever postseason averages and lowest percentage drop between the regular season and postseason.

Vermont has hosted 3 quarterfinal series: 2005, their last year in the ECAC, 2008 and 2009. The 2005 and 2008 series went 3 games, while the 2009 series went 2 games. The reported attendance for every one of the games was 4,003 (capacity). Since then Vermont has hosted 3 opening round games/series: a single elimination game in 2014, a 3 game seines in 2015 and a 2 game series this year. I wrote a little about their opening round attendance in a post on the Average Men's Attendance thread. Overall, Vermont's regular season attendance is no longer always sellouts and is down 8% from the last season (2007-08) every game was reported as a sellout. That has carried over into the opening round games where the Vermont average attendance has been lower than the regular season average, although it did improve this year, but was still off the regular season average by 12.4%.

Could Vermont sellout? Maybe, but I don't think it is a given. UMass Lowell, which lead the league in regular season attendance and also had the best quarterfinal attendance this year, was only able to sellout one game out of three. Merrimack, with the smallest rink in Hockey East was almost able to pull it off, selling out their first 2 games, but were a few hundred short for the third game.

Best chant from the UVM students (I think they were students) was an Overrated chant at BC. I didn't quite get that one. May have been when it was 3-2 at some point?

Wow, you are really trolling hard this morning, back to back posts...

Re: UVM 2016-2017 Season: Really?

What an embarrassing performance from the Cats this weekend. Lots of standing around watching BC players skate circles around them. Very frustrating to watch. Credit to BC, they are a great team with great coach. Good season for the Cats overall and I am hopeful for the coming years with this crop of young players. Hopefully we can hang on to them.
A silver lining to them losing this weekend might be that Schulman has less reason to give Sneddon an extension. If they had gone further in the playoffs then he might have been forced to keep him around. I will be very interested to see if any moves are made.
Enjoyed the Fan Forum this year everyone.

BC is not a great team this year but I was surprised they scored a TD in each game against UVM.

It might be too little too late for BC as they need to beat BU Friday or the season is over.
