For the purposes of the NCAA, only the 5x5, five minute OT counts. Anything done above and beyond is used for conference points or, in this case, for gits and shiggles. This game was officially a tie.

In the case of a non conference game this seems like a great opportunity for players to get injured for no reason.

Agreed. I think it's a dumb idea even for conference games. Seems players would be more prone to injury when they're tired.

Loved the effort by a few of the guys out there last night!
Blocking shots, diving, crashing net (luckily no calls there!), it was nice to see.
A few plays were too defensively casual and a few d-men got schooled 1 on 1 a few too many times.
Also an interesting lineup....NO Lee or Coughlin stands out to me.
Maybe coach is putting trust in a few other guys?

Big win for the cats in Omaha! Puffer played great tonight and I feel like Lekkas won the starting job with his play this weekend. Especially coming in with the two goal deficit in the first and blanking a talented UNO team the rest of the way.

16 goals in 4 games WOW!!!! Last year Vermont took 9 games to get that much.

Anybody else thinking we have a real good chance to beat Michigan that didnt 48 hours ago???

Now how do you fit the four other guys back into the lineup? I know Mario and Bradley will get back in but what about the other two. Hopefully it doesn't mess up what these boys have created. This team is one weak goal away from being 2-0-2. Clarkson beat umass Lowell and tied providence this weekend. I think the Santa era is over he looked lost last night and the freshman looked great

I stopped listening after they went down 2-0 for the second straight night. Thought they were headed for a blowout.

Great to see some of the underclassman really step up. Seems like we're headed for a two-headed monster in goal again this year. Santaguida will find his way back in to the starter role at some point before Christmas

I stopped listening after they went down 2-0 for the second straight night. Thought they were headed for a blowout.

Great to see some of the underclassman really step up. Seems like we're headed for a two-headed monster in goal again this year. Santaguida will find his way back in to the starter role at some point before Christmas

As an Omaha fan I was really impressed with UVM and especially #40's relief performance. He played very confident and didn't allow many rebounds. The Puffer line was dominant Saturday. We didn't have an answer for it.
Now go beat everyone else so we don't look bad!

As an Omaha fan I was really impressed with UVM and especially #40's relief performance. He played very confident and didn't allow many rebounds. The Puffer line was dominant Saturday. We didn't have an answer for it.
Now go beat everyone else so we don't look bad!

I was apprehensive about dropping $15 to watch last nights game but came away with the best PPV experience watching any road game! It was worth it!
Your announcing crew was great! They were complimentary toward the good things UVM was doing and even slightly criticizing UNO when necessary. They knew the UVM players names and quite knowledgable about the game.
UNO team didnt get chippy late either as teams seem to do. I thought the announcing crew were the perfect balance of being homers and being honest. The quality of the feed was great too.
Far cry from a few of the TERRIBLE hockey east away crews and school feeds. I hope this series will renew for a few more years.

Our defensive energy was great! Relentless forecheck and back checking caused offensive chances that we didnt choke on.
Love seeing those soph/jr take it up a level. Puffer/Priv and linemates really sparked the rest!

Lets not forget Lekkas gave up 4 the night before while Santa only gave up 5 in two games versus a good Clarkson team. And to be fair Vermont was being outplayed at both ends in the start of the
game Omaha had like the first 10 shots before the Cats woke up. So lets not hand the job to the rookie based on 2 goals with one on the PP was not Santas fault.

3 goals this weekend on breakaways, rare that we had that many even more rare they buried them all.

I hope that Santa doesn't play unless and until Lekkas lays an egg. Santa lets in at least one stoppable goal a game.
So, scoring hasn't been a problem, the team has a never say die vibe lately and the defence has been ok, even with working freshmen in and especially with Lee scratched. After the next game, Petruzzelli, Muscoby, Bradley and Puskarich can play. Assuming the same effort against Michigan, what do you do, put them all in at the risk of ruining the chemistry? Muscoby is easier as there have been three freshmen d playing so he can be an upgrade on them and not disturb too much. But what of the forwards? Puskarich has talent but is shhot first, look for an open teammate never. One of the reasons for the weekend success was the hard work and passing. Puskarich brings neither. Who do you sit for him? Petruzzelli is an energy guy but not a talented scorer.....who do you sit for him? Bradley I think is easier as he is an all round player but still, which 3 forwards deserve to sit?
Against Michigan I hope they put Abramson and Hamilton back together like game 1 and play them a lot as the talent is spread thin on D.

I think Lekkas is definitely worth being excited about. He was a solid goalie for the last two years in the USHL, but he is a freshman playing behind a pretty shaky defense. Also, it doesn't help that this team seems to be on the penalty kill a lot. I think he'll have a rough few games at some point and the coaches will end up going back and forth through the season.

What he meant was that if we lost these first 5 games it would affect HE's out-of-conference (OOC) record, which would affect a conference team's PairWise ranking, and ultimately its ability to make the NCAA tourney.

Nice surprise on the weekend coming away from UNO without a loss. Should be some reinforcement for the guys that they can win if they take care of business with or without some of the top guys on the ice.

No doubt when everyone is eligible to play again that we will see the captains back on the ice. Puskarich is too good not to have out on the ice. Hopefully Sneddon can keep together some of the lines that ARE working right now though while getting those guys back out there and create more depth. If nothing else you know Puskarich is going to draw a lot of attention from the other team when he is on the ice.

I would be really surprised to see Santa take a back up role just yet. I think we see a rotation for the next few weeks. It's nice to keep opposing teams guessing as to who they are going to face in net. It's an advantage to be able to insert either one, and it's a nice surprise to see Lekkas up to the task. But I'd count on a rotation through the first half of the season.

Someone really missed the sarcasm of how a 2-1-1 team is hurting the league. Just a jab at the BU fan who's team is 3-2 no better than Vermont.

Glad to see Vermont got 3 big points in the new poll, sad to see Omaha who just lost 3 out of 4 points in its own barn got 9 points.

The original comment about hurting HE was made at the time the hazing suspensions were announced, before any regular season games had been played. At the time it was a valid point, since it looked like we'd really have our backs against the wall, playing without 4 key players. In retrospect, of course, we're more than holding our own in OOC play.
