UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Has everyone given up?
I believe that with some changes in coaching strategy and some better utilization of the players, this could be a middle of the pack team and not a bottom feeder as they have been of late.
Maybe those changes are unlikely and you all have lost the desire but the Catamounts go into Boston this weekend and I hope that they earn a split.

Not given up ... just not getting so excited. Especially heading in to the weekend against yet another top ranked team that I'd like to believe we can skate with and compete with, however with recent results I think a single pt would be the best we can realistically hope for. If the team can't get up for a game against Philly then aren't going to do it against BU.

I will make a prediction ... Hendrickson will definitely pick a sweep for BU.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Excellent road win for the Cats!!

When the Cats were in that killer run of top 5 teams the one thing they never were able to get in those
games no matter how well they played was simply a LEAD. Even thou BU scored first the Cats ended the 1st period
ahead and that allowed them to play the style they want and made BU adjust to them. This team does not have the
scoring to get behind 2-0 every game like they did during that run.

PK was much better and was a huge key in the win, even the PP got one.

Alex P and Lee were very good tonight and Hamilton made good choices when under fire.

Have to think BU makes a adjustment and have to think the first goal is huge for VT.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Good win for the Cats.

First goal Santa probably should have had but there was a good screen on him, second goal had some puck luck on it.

J. Priv had a really nice goal there and has stepped up his game quite a bit, I think he maybe the future leader of this team.

Coughlin had a really sweet pass there for the 3rd goal as well, nice to see a good pass pay off with a goal.

Have to be happy with a win these days and win over a ranked team for 2 all important HE points makes it that much sweeter. Here's quietly hoping this team may have righted the ship a bit.

Boy was that a huge early XMAS gift for BU. Vermont loses it goalie and then they get a 5min major in a tie game.

Cats deserved better. At least make BU earn it themselves.

Agree BU got an early Christmas gift, but not sure I agree the Cats deserved better. Didn't see the game, but how the eff do you take a 5-minute major with 2 something minutes left in the game and your opponent has just scored to tie it?!?!? Tell me what the eff Shaw was thinking, a guy who should be setting an example for the younger players??? No, the Cats got exactly what they deserved which, unfortunately, has been the story of this season. Congrats to BU on the W.

Despicable officiating, while the hit on Somerby was absolutely a penalty as he charged and contacted the head, the officials do not have the ability to retroactively enforce a penalty they did not call that is not comsidered "nonjudgmental." I assume the conference at center ice after the play went something along the lines of "Welp, we effed that one up. How can we spin the rules to make it right?" Sneddon had every right to scream his head off at them. Tough luck losing Santaguida there, he played extraordinarily well all weekend.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Gotta imagine Shaw will be in the bleachers next go round.

That was unfortunate, and with Santa on the sidelines that was a really important HE point. I wish the play he got injured on was on the HE highlight video.

All in all a split with BU is a decent weekend, but man it's disappointing when they give away points. Which this team seems to be making a habit of doing.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

I find it interesting that the replay of the delayed call major and/or the injury to Santaguida were not shown on the Jumbotron. Every other penalty was shown.

Not sure why that would be, as it doesn't appear there's anything to cover up. If you want to see the penalty, check out the highlights on the HE website. Clearly looks like a penalty to me. Although you can't see where Shaw's little run began, it appears he went after the BU player with the sole purpose of attempting to decapitate him. Real smart, especially at that point in the game. Unfortunately, another example of the Cats snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I watched that hit several times and it looked to me that Shaw's hit was legal, he went straight on the player not from the side or behind. I saw a half or dozen or more hits in those 2 games that were just as big not called even a 2 min. The BU player was trying to fight off the UVM player behind him and was not ready for the hit which is not Shaw's fault. What would the refs done if UVM had scored before they finally decided to stop play?

I'm going to agree with you on this... at first I thought there was a penalty, but looking at it more and more it was legit. The BU guy just wasn't ready for it. Shaw wasn't charging, he wasn't even striding the entire time he was in view, just had a good head of steam. That was a poor call.

On the other hand it was still a stupid move on Shaw's part. There's little reason to try and knock the guys head in the stands, and every reason to not do anything that a ref maybe able to find a reason to call. Especially that late in the game.

Can you link to the hit? Generally I'd say Shaw is a clean hitter.

Shaw got the penalty because he stood up as he initiated the check. If he had stayed low his shoulder would have hit the BU player's chest instead of his head and it would not have been a penalty. Checking 101.

Like the Giants, UVM finds new and creative ways to lose each each game. Sigh.

BFP reporting Santa likely out for several weeks. Guess we will get to see how good Packy Munson is...

Hate to see Santa injured, but I'm okay with seeing what Munson can do. Don't know the answer, but are you thinking he's #2 on the depth chart? Hard to say with Sneddon giving the nod to Feeley last Saturday.
