UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Hate to see Santa injured, but I'm okay with seeing what Munson can do. Don't know the answer, but are you thinking he's #2 on the depth chart? Hard to say with Sneddon giving the nod to Feeley last Saturday.

I'm not sure who was the back up is a good indication of who replaces Santa, I think we will see both of them probably this weekend.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

I'm going to agree with you on this... at first I thought there was a penalty, but looking at it more and more it was legit. The BU guy just wasn't ready for it. Shaw wasn't charging, he wasn't even striding the entire time he was in view, just had a good head of steam. That was a poor call.

On the other hand it was still a stupid move on Shaw's part. There's little reason to try and knock the guys head in the stands, and every reason to not do anything that a ref maybe able to find a reason to call. Especially that late in the game.

FYI - Vermont's Brady Shaw Suspended One Game

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

It is nice to see some interest in the team.....it seemed to be waning.
Shaw should not have even received a penalty much less been given a 5 and a game and been suspended. That said, it will be interesting to see how much is absence is felt. His production has been poor, his attitude suspect and I honestly don't know what the impact of his absence will be. He has the size and ability to be a 20 goal scorer but that has not happened.
I think if they get Phillips back in the lineup on D, keep Kearley in the stands and try to limit Lee's exposure to key situations, especially defensive ones, they may have a chance even with goalies who will be making their first NCAA starts. Give Pattyn. Abramson and A. Priv as much ice time as they can handle and who knows, maybe we can surprise the ranked St. Lawrence. On forward, Sinkbeil's enthusiasm and size may offset the loss of Shaw.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Really curious to see how the lines shake out without Shaw and Forgione and Pattyn in there. If Senkbeil goes in and Darrar and Bowen or Blanleil?

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

I'm as excited for a weekend as I have been over the past month. If nothing else simply to see what we have for tenders in the wings. I like Santa a lot, but countless times we seen back up goalies get a start and then run with it. It will be very interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Wow... that was a nice surprise. Glad to see the team play well against a good ranked team. They should start building some confidence, with the split with BU and last nights game the Cats come in 2-1 in their last 3 games against ranked opponents. And we all know that loss should have been avoided. When they want to give it their all and put in the effort they can play with the best of them. What maybe an even better surprise is then Packy's shut out is the offensive output. 11 goals in the last 3 games is huge for UVM. Seems things are clicking. Especially for the J Priv line, who now leads the team in goals scored and is tied, oddly, with A Priv for 2nd in team in scoring. Bet that makes for a nice discussion at the X-Mas table.

Lots of guys out last night, but it maybe for the better. Not sure I'd change the line up at all.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Packie did what every backup should do and that was not try to do to much. It also didn't hurt that the team played very well in front of him and didn't make him have to
make too many big saves, a few turnovers but none right in front of him and no breakaways or rebound shots. Looked like one of Joe Fallons shutouts were he doesnt have
to do anything but not let up a bad goal. PK was very good hope they have found some answers there.

As said the scoring has been up the last few weeks and that against good teams, wonder if Sneddon will leave some of these lines together esp the Irwin line. Ferguson played
well and scares me less than those he played in place of. Not as gifted a scorer but if we have Priv/Ham/Mscb out there that enough. We need some D who make the easy play and not try to do to much.

Wonder were Big Dan is? Of those sitting(INJ?) he seemed to be the one I cant figure why he doesnt play.

Any thoughts on the game this coming weekend?

Please don't lose that is my main one haha
Union seems willing to play high goal kind of game to various result would say UVM want to keep it in the 4 overall goals between both team camp for best chance.

Union is definitely beatable and can lose close games and next goal wins games.
The defence has to play like they did last Friday night and by defence, I mean the forwards as well. Do not allow more then 20 shots and they will win.
Coaching staff have to put new people out on the power play. We are near the bottom of the NCAA rankings. Put out the third line. Put out the fourth line. Why keep throwing out the same guys who haven't got the job done all season to date. Same for the D on the power play. A. Priv and Lee look ok but do not generate offence. Sometime that is done by smart plays, not flashy plays. That said, changing those guys off the pp will never happen.
The penalty kill is bad as well. I think we may be dead last in combined pp and pk. Get Lee off the pk. Go with 3 guys if you to.
We need total buy in and commitment from every player and that has been absent from all but a handful of games. Get big Dan in the lineup as he gives his all every shift.
....and pray that Munson or Feeley are at least average.

Got to see the game at a Union tonite. UVM played great and I was impressed with their passing and puck possession. Freshman goalie was excellent - stoned several grade A Union chances. Union is much improved and I predict will be in the ECAC mix down the stretch. Definitely one of those games that UVM played well enough to win. Cat d-man pinched and whiffed on the puck and U sniper Foo finished it with OT GWG

I will say that I did NOT like Sneddon dressing down the dman on the ice before the handshakes. I thought it was wrong place /wrong time and a message that should've been given off the ice. Nothing constructive achieved by embarrassing the kid on ice. I know Sneddon wanted this game, but as a veteran coach he should know better. My two cents.

I have seen a lot of UVM games and I don't think I've ever seen Snedon lose his cool like that! I was shocked...
