UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Not a bad night for the Cats, but unfortunately didn't get much help where it was needed. BC and BU not being able to finish off Lowell and Notre Dame hurts, and UMass nearly pulled off a big upset before falling to PC in overtime. Getting help from Maine over NU is a little too much to ask, so can't complain about that. Most importantly though, we needed to win, and we did, so kudos to the team for that.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

A Split did keep the Cats in the running for Home Ice even thou ND could have beat Prov Sat and helped us.

With 2 weeks left the battle for spots 3 thru 7 standings right now

UML 22 points
Prov 21
NU 20
ND 20
VT 19

Two teams get HomeIce (Top4)
UML has 3 games left and everyone else 4 which makes this even closer
Notre Dame has the tough job of playing 2 at BU and then 2 vs BC so they are a long shot
Prov has a major schedule edge playing Umass and Maine
Northeastern plays 2 at Maine and a H/H with BU (also throw in the Beanpot Final)
Vermont has 2 vs Merrimack and then 2 at UML

I figure 3 wins gets Vermont in unless both NU and ND can beat BC & BU who they play 6 of the 8 games they play.

Basically we have to sweep Merrimack and hope NU & ND lose at least one each this weekend.

Should be fun

While the results could have been better...F-in Umass couldnt hold on for 8 more seconds. the Cats
were able to gain a point on UML & ND so we now have standing right now 3 thru 7 with 2 getting homeice

UML 23 no game tonight
Prov 23
NE 22
VT 21
ND 21

Vermont plays UML next week so if we win tonight we control matchup with them, I still dont see ND getting
to many points playing BU tonight and BC next week. NE plays BU next week plus beanpot final. I think we
lost our chance at catching Prov with Umass blowing that game last night,

****.

I have a will call ticket for the game tonight that I can't use (missed my connecting flight back to CT in ATL last night... spent the night in the airport because all hotels in the area were booked. Just got home. Big thanks Delta) not sure if they'll let me transfer it via phone but I'd be willing to try if any local wants to go for free.

Use the email member option or I will check the thread around 530.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Well that was a weird game last night. Tough to dominate a team so bad and not get 2 points but at least we gained a point on
a few teams. Here is the clusterpuck standings from spots 2 thur 7 with schedules with top 3 getting homeice

BC 25.....at ND
UML 23...vs VT
ND 23.... vs BC
Prov 23.. vs Maine
NE 22.....H/H vs BU
VT 22... at UML

That point last night the Cats didnt get will really hurt unless we sweep UML otherwise we need alot of help

what do you mean top 3 get home ice? top 4 get quartersfinals bye and 5-8 get home series for first round and I think UVM did secure at least a series at home don't think they can finish lower than 7. looks like if they sweep Lowell could finish 4 but my guess is even with a slpit it stays the same because so much has to happen in other games and they are either 6-7 and that for now means Merrimack and UNH at home for first round

BU is in 1st and we cant catch them so I only talked about the home ice spots 2nd thru 4th that VT can get.

ok i think we have a different definition of home ice. UVM will have home ice because they will not finish lower than 7-8th and those teams get a home first round game because seeds 5-8 get home series that is how i define home ice as a home series regardless of round you are talking about first round byes.

Wow...

Crickets <chirp> <chirp>
No doubt. It seems with the second half slide people have lost some interest. I'll admit I've kinda fallen prey to that.

Regarding this weekend, I said on the Maine thread that I HATE drawing a team we've already beaten 4 times. Not good karma. Think we'll probably move on in 3 games, but could also see the season ending.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Seems like UVM backed into the best match up for the first round. Just picked up my tickets. Hopefully the Sunday tickets become bookmarks.

And in other news: Looking forward to seeing Torrey Mitchell in a Montreal uniform. Last time Montreal had a UVM player it worked out very well.

Maine's defense is bad. However, the goal tenders have put together good games from time to time. Very inconsistent, but they are capable of playing a good game. If one of them plays well and Maine scores more than 3 goals look for Maine to win at least one game. It will be very difficult for Maine to sweep.

I'd just like to see him get a real chance... He's always been relegated to the 4th line / PK. He was/is a great two way player and does have some offensive talent. I would love to see him get some ice time on a scoring line. One of the clearest moments I have of a UVM hockey game was Mitchell skating it down the ice with 2-3 secs to go and firing a slapshot from the blue line as time wound down, scoring a goal that either tied or won the game with less then a second less. I shudder to think of St. Louis' days playing with Calgary and Tampa Bay's use of Eric Perrin...

Kudos to Torrey for having a steady NHL career, I hope he gets a shot at becoming the scorer he can be, he will always be a great defensive player.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I went to the Lowell game Saturday... thought the Cats played very well and "deserved" to win. The D was stifling. Very physical game and we gave as much as we took, which was good to see.

Tough to beat a team 6 times in one season, but if we can get off this roller coaster (good effort, bad effort) than hopefully we can get past Maine and make some noise in the quarterfinal series.

Also I totally misclicked buying tickets to the Saturday game vs. Maine... have two extras in section 14 but they are single seats (I'm a dumbass and click too much).

Would let them go at a discount.

What a crock of shat, I couldn't make the game tonight, figured oh well we have an awesome alumni base (of which I am part of) that allows the games to be streamed online for free. Go to bring it up online and oh ooops, HE and Joey B say for the playoffs you have to pay... money grubbers.

If you have Fox College Sport - Atlantic they are broadcasting the game.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Care to make any predictions about tonight's game? Before the series, I said the Cats would advance in 3 games, but I could also see the season ending right here, right now. Thought Maine played really well last night with their season on the line. The Cats? Not so much. You could say our season was also on the line. At #16 in the Pairwise, a loss would make winning the HE championship our only path to the NCAA tourney and, I think we'd all agree, there's little chance of that happening. So, a really disappointing effort by the team with so much at stake.

Ted Ryan is wondering if the Cats will go with Hoffman tonight with the season on the line. I say do it. I don't think it can hurt and it might give the team a spark. Unless there's some significant improvement from Santa and Hoffman, I frankly don't think either of these guys is the answer at goalie. A lot of people criticized Sneddon for bringing in a top-tier goalie recruit for next season, but now he looks like a visionary. Hey, if you think you can improve the team, you gotta do it, hurt feelings and so-called "promises" to players be ****ed.

So, regarding tonight. I'd love to see more UVM hockey next weekend, even if I don't see the team advancing beyond the quarterfinals. But based on what I saw last night, and Maine clearly having some confidence and momentum, I'm gonna say Maine wins a tight game 4-2 with the last goal coming on an empty netter. C'mon Cats, prove me wrong!
