My understanding is he is likely a 1B goalie. How he develops over the next year remains to be seen. But, here are a few things I found on him...
When asked who in the NAHL has a shot at the NHL :
"Port Huron Fighting Falcons Head Coach Michael Gershon feels that Springfield's Stefanos Lekkas has the best opportunity. 'I think he has the best chance of playing in the NHL. While he isn't the biggest kid, the movement and calmness in the crease are his biggest attributes," Gershon said on Monday. "He is also very technically sound and I know Randy Wilson has done a good job down there preparing him for this season. Being a '96 (birth-year) in this league is hard enough, but being a number one goalie at his age is something rarely seen in the NAHL."
Lekkas is 9th in the USHL on a rather mediocre team. Also of note, is he is a relatively young kid still.
This is why I have a little issue with the Hoff saga, it's just a tad sketchy. We have 3 goalies and Sneddon brings in a 4th for next year? And we have 2 starters and a pretty decent back up already. So when Lekkas committed it was strange, especially as it appears he is capable of pushing for #1. So before the start of the season it was kind of an odd man out situation to start, and kind of suggests that someone was expected to be leaving after this season.
Now don't get me wrong, if a situation occurred that warranted a suspension then so be it. And I assume this is the case, but the committment of Lekkas kid struck me as odd to start with and it just makes one wonder, especially considering the very high turnover rate we've seen with Sneddon. Maybe absolutely nothing, but certainly arouses suspicion.
