UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Anyone notice Hoffman was not on the bench after he was pulled? Was he injured? Could have been in the tunnel, but don't think so.

Hmmm, interesting. Don't know why that would have been. If you'll notice, a few posts back Hoser said he "stormed off the ice." Could he have been having a hissy fit and gone to the locker room?

Not dressed tonight... seems like there something to this.

Wow... what a terrible goal to give up with 2 minutes to go.

Get that OT winner Alexx!

Hoffman has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team values and expectations.

Junior goaltender Brody Hoffman, who was pulled from Friday's 4-2 loss after allowing three goals, was suspended indefinitely for violation of team values and expectations. No specifics were released. "We'll meet with the team and the captain and decide when (Hoffman's) return is going to be considered," Sneddon said. "Again, we have high expectations and high values regarding how we conduct ourselves and he did not comport himself very well last night after the game."

My two cents, Hoffman should tell Sneddon to shove it and leave...Sneddon has been jerking him around all year.

Then tell him not to give up weak goals at the wrong time. Goalies are not immume to being sat anymore than Mario or any other skater. And yea nice advice sure
to make every NHL team drool as they love players who walk out on thier teams who cant go post to post.

Another player suspended by sneddon? Shocking. My guess is Sneddon has lied to him on multiple occasions leading to his frustration and boiling point. It was a bad decision to pull him friday. Maybe if you have a turnover in game he should sit kids for rest of game. Or maybe after a missed shot. Sneddon couldn't get enough of the kid two years ago. Now that he's got another one coming in behind. Under the bus he goes.

Still one win against a team with a winning record.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Well this was certainly a disappointing weekend...

Team nearly pulled it out last night but just missed. They should feel good about that loss though, if you can ever feel good about a loss. BU will be #1 come tomorrow and the Cats took them to OT. If they can right the ship they have the potential to make a run.

As for Hoff, well that's disappointing to. I am a Sneddon supporter but suspensions and players leaving needs to come to a halt. Obviously we don't know what happened in the locker room but it sounds like Hoff was pretty upset and that is to be expected. The suspension sounds on it's face like it was unwarranted. There is likely more to it, but it still reeks of something else. We have Hoff and Santa... two #1 goaltenders... Feeley who is a more then adequate #2 and Sneddon is bringing in another #1 goaltender next year? And then Hoff gets suspended for violation of team "values"? Doesn't seem like a good situation for our goal tenders moral wise.

With that said I will disagree with Catmandoo... pulling Hoff was the right decision, he wasn't sharp and when you are playing the #1 team in the country you need to be.

I hope they get things sorted out here quickly and move forward before things unravel further

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

One last thing.... I still am at a loss for how that GWG went in... Eichel is good but that was pure luck an a very unfortunate deflection for the Cats.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I don't fault Sneddon at all for the Hoffman situation. Hoffman's been given multiple opportunities to be the #1 goalie and, frankly, has not been very good recently. When you give up three goals in a game, two of which are questionable, it's reasonable to expect that you might be pulled. Don't know the exact details of what happened next, but you can't be throwing a hissy fit and showing up your coach in the process. I wouldn't tolerate it, and it doesn't sound like Sneddon would either. I'll admit I've been perplexed by some of the past suspensions, and players leaving the program, but unless some additional information is revealed, I support Sneddon on this one.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I want to take a moral victory out of this weekend, but it's impossible because since New Years we've had one good performance that resulted in a W (@Dartmouth). If the team was playing consistently well I'd be ok with this series against BU... but the Cats really needed to take a point minimum after playing so well.

Still results aside there was some good hockey played, and it was a fun series to watch. Eichel's tip was amazing... **** i had to run the stream back like 8 times to believe it.

I can't pretend to know what is happening behind the scenes. I'm sure there is more happening wrt Hoff's anger than what we see and read. The bottom line is he hasn't been sharp enough lately and Santa has been the better keeper. It's tough to see upheaval in the program at a time when they really need to come together as a team.

team goals against average is 2 in the nation so any comments about Hoff being "off" fall on deaf ears to me. This is another situation where a savior of the program two years being set aside for greener grass. Not dressing hoffman for a few games after what he did is completely acceptable. But to air it out in the press as "indefinite" and now a decision of the captains and coaching staff is complete bs. It should of stayed internal period end of story. Kids careers and lives down the road get affected by Sneddon and his and his staffs inability to keep their mouth shut when it's a team matter. Surprised Wallack didn't throw it out on Twitter along with all his other "look at me" tweets.

The real issue here is that of schedule strength and a bad mix between 1st and 2nd half schedule strength. The run against lesser opponents gave everyone false hopes as to this teams strengths. This team has two fantastic goal tenders and 4 seasoned d. The perpetual inability to score and digression of skilled forwards in this program and defense at all costs mentality is showing up again.

A goalie will be able to steal a game once in a while but if you only score one goal you can't expect to beat the better programs. Look a what Michigan is doing right now. Not saying that they can win it all giving up 4 a game but somewhere between here and there is the right mix.

The frozen four team had so much offensive talent and a hot goalie that they couldn't be governed enough by his style. Look at my earlier posts this year where I said puskarich would struggle without mccarthy. He's still having a good year by Vermont scoring standards but equalling last years point production against a much much easier schedule is not a given. Last year he could do no wrong and now he's moving closer and closer to coaches firing target. Same story different year.

Through Hoff's first 11 games he had a 1.79 GAA with a .927 sv% (9-1-1-). In his last 4 games he has a 3.36GAA with a 0.893 sv%, good for 1-2-1.

I don't think it can be argued he's struggling... no matter how deaf you are. Blind and deaf combo is the only excuse.

Of course the team isn't scoring either, I don't think the current problem is entirely down to our goaltending. Maybe Hoff feels like a scapegoat after being pulled against Yale and BU and that led to his reaction. I do agree that Sneddon calling him out in the press isn't a good move. Take care of this **** in house please.

I'm amazed at all this talk about Hoffman's suspension. The guy is a great goal tender but isn't above the teams ethics and rules. Pulling him was a coaches decision and it could have been for several reasons, including sparking the team. In fact we did go from 3-0 to 3-2 before the empty netter. I have always admired and respected Kevin for setting team rules and adhereing to them. Some schools would find a way out for their stars. We are a class act and don't succumb to that nonsense. These are also life lessons for these student athletes. As far as Kevin calling Hoff out, he was asked a direct question and gave an honest answer. If he had said nothing he would have been criticized for that. I don't know exactly what happened but I trust that team rules were broken and there are consequences. It doesn't need to be a secret. It was obvious he wasn't playing and rather than have all sorts of speculation the truth was told - transparency goes a long way in my book. My guess or hope is that Brody will reflect on whatever his actions were, apologize to the team, learn from the experience, become a better person for it, have the staff and captains accept his apology reinstate him and move forward. I hope we can move on to more important things like how well the team played and proved they can play with the best, it was just unfortunate that we didn't come away with a couple points. Keep working hard CATS you are very good and this little slump will turn around for you if you just keep working hard like you did against BU. You clearly outplayed them Saturday night and were on par with them Friday. My wish is a first round bye. There is plenty of time to make that happen.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

I agree that is is within the Coach's discretion to pull a goalie for whatever reason he believes is best for the team. Clearly Hoffman has underperformed over the last three or four starts and letting in a 3rd goal on Friday that was horribly soft entitles the Coach to do what he did.
I am somewhat puzzled by all the concern over this suspension without regard to how the rest of the team is playing. Once again on Saturday the only goal is scored by a defencemen. The forwards have to learn how to score against good opposition. 9-1 on Friday in shots from the get go and no goals. I personally believe that the best forwards lineup has Sinkbeil and whatever of the munchkins is willing to pay the price and play physically and take a hit to make a play. Quitr frankly I do not see that from the two most talented forwards, Fallon and Puskarich, especially the latter.
On defence, I have been preaching that Paliotta and Privittera are premier offensive players but not great defenders, once again especially the latter. On Saturday night, Privittera perhaps costs the team a win with a blind pass right on to a BU stick in the slot with 2 minutes left. My point is not to string Privittera up for doing that, although I do believe that the play he made is inexcusable at this level. I, once again, point out that he and Paliotta play over 30 minutes a game and are beat in the third period. Quite frankly Privittera should not have been on the ice with two minutes left with a 1-0 lead. He is no better then the 5th best defensive defencemen of the 6 who were dressed, so why on the pk as first pair and on the ice in a shutdown role? He has never been known as a complete player so why does Coach play him that way. Hopefully the emergence of Abramsonand the continuing development of Phillips over the weekend will make it easier on the coaching staff to take their blinders off.
Unless the forwards score and the defence are deployed better, this season could be in jeapardy.

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

whether or not what Hoffman did was right or wrong to me seems like festering situation that was going to end sooner than later Sneddon bringing in another goalie next year something was going to happen to either Hoffman or Santaguida and it just happened to be Hoffman we have seen the end of him he wont come back I cannot see that at all and good for Hoffman just get out of there Sneddon doesn't care if he ruins a kids career or development personally or professional and eventually it comes back to him it is what it is. Some deserved it like the hockey baseball player who we won't name but others not, just pushed out for Wallacks new shiney guys. Feely never even played a game in his life and have no idea if he's even good or even a scholarship goalie big boy but what else does he bring.
Had optimistic cause for this season but now starting to feel like fool's gold competiting is nice but competeing is not winning and yes no wins against teams with overall winning records is something needs to be discussed. I know so many on this place are softies and great job great effort people but I want to win and to me this season just seems like a tailspin and same year different story though this team has better pieces than before can they truly get back to where they were in 2009 that is the standard and beyond and that is what fans should think and not just be happy to get 5th place and a home playoff game higher standards. I will take 5th place this year because it is growth but not the standard need to see improvement going forward and games were they just can't win suck and those have to change especially at home I realize Saturday was a bad error and lucky bounce but still
Also Paliotta as much as he is lacks defensively man team will miss him next year has been nice to see he developed and I hope he gets a shot in the NHL in a few years time. Brickley doing well in AHL and maybe a year or two away no thanks to Sneddon of course.

Also did Ted Ryan not mention that the Latvvian kid Egle won't be coming because he can't get into school?

Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season

Ted Ryan article on the Hoffman situation here

Take a side Ted- Sneddon v. Hoff!:D

No info or speculation in the article... just kind of meshing the two main sentiments voiced in the thread. Hoffman hasn't been good lately and he was pretty ****ed about getting pulled. I think there are genuine question marks in Sneddon's handling of the whole situation, but it's tough to side with Hoffman after his reaction (whatever it was).
