Re: UVM 2014-2015: Let's Play 10 Games in Massachusetts this Season
just look at the save % and tell me it makes sense to play him versus Hoffman.....
On the current season:
Hoffman : .927 sv%, 1.47 GAA
Santaguida: .941 sv%, 1.51 GAA
Santaguida has a higher save percentage so by your logic he should be the starter...
I don't believe that for a minute... the fact is having two goalies with tremendously different physiques, styles, strengths and weaknesses is a boon for this team and rotating these goalies is what makes sense. Possibly throw in a weekend here and there where one goalie gets both games simply to throw off the opposing team a bit and keep it as random as possible. That's what makes sense to me. You haven't ever liked Santaguida, declaring him too small from day 1. That's fine, your opinion is that goalies need to be big.
And yes, Hoff had a better sv% last season although only marginally, however without taking into consideration WHO they each played against it's irrelevant.
Santa played both games against BC, both games against UND, both games against UNH, both games against ND... these are high powered offenses.
Hoffman played both games against MC, and 5 games against UML. MC wasn't very good and UML is a much more defense minded team then the likes of UNH, BC, UND and ND. So I don't agree at all that the 0.013 difference in sv% somehow makes it logical to start Hoffman over Santaguida. Sorry, but again, I guess we just agree to disagree.
