I think some of those DI "wash outs" might have been productive in the right circumstances and with more ice time.Drafty, any D-3 program that realistically wants to compete would be absolutely insane to eschew D-1 wash-outs.
It's funny how so many of those guys who failed at that level excel down here, including a few being D-3 All-Americans.
The gulf in talent is still surprisingly wide.
DIII teams also need to be careful not to take just any of these "wash outs" if they don't want to harm team culture or risk academic issues. As already noted, the latter depends on the selectivity and academic rigor of the school.
