Utica University 2022-23: Is This The Year?

How is wanting a decent broadcast sour grapes? Go watch the on demand for Friday's game. Now no sound at all. Not even rink sounds.

I had rink sounds and commentary. The whole shebang. Maybe ask somebody to help you with the streaming thing..?

Not impressed Utica. After a terrible broadcast on Friday night you can't even give the visiting teams the courtesy of any sound for their game. I guess you just packed up and decided the weekend was over? Would not recommend any teams respond to tournaments/showcases if the Utica org. can't offer basic services.

This post is laugh out loud funny. Teams beg to come play at the Aud. Attendance was low the entire weekend and it was still more than double any other attendance number this weekend.

Utica's stream is normally top notch and Ray Biggs is arguably the best announcer in all of D3 sports. I'm sure they were shorthanded due to the holiday.

The broadcast experience was poor and not something I would have expected from Utica. Maybe being shorthanded this weekend left people in charge who did not know what they were doing. Did they not connect with Sidearm servers for audio? Maybe someone forgot to flip a switch. Great that teams beg to play Utica. I hadn't heard that before. Maybe a 6 team event would have been better then. Should have let those teams in.

Friday's production was lousy, but Saturday's was fine, IIRC. The stream from Utica has been very good for years; no idea what happened on Friday.

And, just a few years ago -before Covid, and when I was in the loop- I talked to many connected folks. Both friends and foes told me that there was a good-enough payday in Utica for visiting teams to actually turn a profit there... As we all know, most D-3 teams operate at a deficit during EVERY game, but nobody left The Aud with empty pockets, or so I was told.

I was talking about Sunday's game, PSU vs. Trine. I know Utica vs. Trine was fine. Did you say there was sound for the Sunday game? I was wondering if you were tapping into the radio feed. Very interesting that visiting teams are compensated by playing at the Aud. I assumed it was the responsibility of visiting teams to cover their expenses if they went to showcases/tournaments. Unlikely that other D3 teams can offer any compensation given small venues that don't charge much or don't charge at all if the majority of the crowd are students.

I barely noticed that a consolation game was played on Sunday, and I certainly didn't budget any time to watch it. I'm sure the attendance was poor.

But -and, again, I'm going on what I've heard from parents, opposing guys who didn't dress for the game, a few insiders, etc.- that Utica has a long history of compensating teams that make the trip there, via the gate and a slice of the pricey concessions.

Otherwise, I wouldn't imagine that a Trine or an Adrian would find it worth its while to bus that far for an OOC game that it wasn't required to play.

And, yeah, having traveled to a bunch of other rinks in the Northeast where you could hear a pin drop, I have to think that 95% of D-3 teams in the region are bleeding money.

Doesn't matter whether any Utica fans care to watch. If you invite teams to a showcase you owe them the courtesy of consistent coverage in terms of streaming.

Adrian's closest potential OOC opponent in the West is only about 30 minutes closer than Utica (UWSP), and I would be very surprised to see them ever play Adrian again outside of the NCAA tournament.

Best game from Utica to date. Nearly a perfect effort.

Still not convinced that the 'tending is at NC level, but nothing to complain about tonight.

(And it's predictable how the BS has stopped from GB. Check out the PW.)

Pretty quiet here after Utica dominated Oswego for all 3 periods. Shots and game were very lopsided. Looks to be a down year in the Suny. Couple clowns towards the end of the game on Oswego. Didn’t look as tough when 37 had them held out by the collar like a little brother

Yup The U dominated, can't argue that, didnt test the net minder much so not sure on that, missed the last minutes of the game as college football was getting interesting and the game, not so much....

I think the whole thing has been, once the team clicks, they're going to be dominant, and I'm pretty sure we're getting close to that point. And with the schedule Utica has remaining, which includes (with current PWR rankings):

Nazareth - 36
Manhattanville - 42
Alvernia - 49
Arcadia - 69
Lebanon Valley - 75
Neumann - 78
King’s - 80

I think running the table at this point has a high possibility if they play at the level they played at last night
