Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

The 4/1 in that image was for Cardinal Bertone, not Cardinal Bergoglio... The man who became Pope had MUCH worse odds. 25/1 according to William Hill Plc. Betting company. Which just reinforces your point, of course ;)

And Bob Emery, the most popular man at the Cardinal College..... Still goes home empty handed.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

The conclave's selection-process is even more mysterious than that of D-3 hockey. I submitted a polished resume to The Vatican's HR department, and they never even checked my references... Talk about black smoke.

I think the real Cardinals should somehow adopt the KRACH. SOS is a difficult thing to measure when comparing Papal worth, I know, but the D-3 KRACH has the FF exactly right, if (possibly) not in the proper order... Pretty impressive stuff, especially for a metric that undergoes no mysterious tweaking prior to being published.

Nobody here in the East is talking much about Eau Claire -the bases of comparison simply don't exist- but if this year's St. Norbert team was anywhere close to as good as they were for the past two years, the Blugolds might be looking like the best team in the field right now.

(FWIW, I've seen a couple of games at WI-River Falls, and the officiating over there was much more lenient than what I have typically seen in the W... That could well be a factor on Friday, depending on where the zebras are from. Special-teams play always seems to be the difference in the FF.)

Stephenson was amazing tonight, and Nick was a bit "off" for once... What ya gonna do?

My hat is off to a great season, just the same. It certainly was fun to watch.

Utica will be even better next year; they'll lose very little to graduation. Now that Heenan can recruit wherever he pleases, the sky is the limit.

GO UC!

Agreed! Enjoyed the atmosphere at 'The Herb". It was an enjoyable experience despite the disappointing result. Next year a FF win has to be the goal and why not a title for good measure!

Good luck Seniors! Thanks for a record setting season...

If anyone would know anything about a great season, it would be a Fishman, with the new season about to open, you have to be pumped. :p

Seriously, I too take my hat is off to Utica, they ran with the big boys and did themselves (and their fans) proud.

This fall, I wont be placing them on a pedestal, but I too have high expectations of them - Is it November 1, yet ;)

Uc had a great yr,that said dont think they put their best foot/skate forward last night, unexperienced, perhaps, they will be a force next yr for sure,BUT now you have to play up to the expectations and that is pressure you have to deal with..until next yr

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

The first two Wisc goals were fluky. The fourth was a man down, that was the backbreaker. Fifth was open netter. UC hit the post 3 times, as far as I'm concerned everything that could of went wrong, did. Their All American goalie was the difference. All Americam Singer was dominating also. Too bad...but it happens. A GREAT year losing very few for next year. Next year should be fun !!!

Fluky ... I can say with certainly, that the second goal scored against the Lady Cards was definitely a Fluke

No disagreement on the first goal, but the second one was a snipe, no fluke. If anything, the fact that he had the shot was the result of what joecct pointed out last night: the Utica D were backing off all night. I can't tell you how many times I saw a loose puck in the neutral zone near the UC blue line, where it was clear as day that if the UC defenseman stepped up, the Eau Claire forward would have NO chance of getting there in time, but both defensemen proceeded to skate backwards and let the blugolds come at them... The 2nd UWEC goal was one of those situations.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Certain of UC's D-men have shown questionable (sometimes awful) decision-making at times all year long, no doubt about that...

As far as tonight's game, I'll be pulling for OSU, but I predict that Stephenson will carry the day for Eau Claire. He was nearly perfect against Utica, three posts non-withstanding.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Watching the game last night I was impressed with the Utica team. First goal by Educate was was areal snipe and his play shows why he was first team East All-American. Utica should be a team to watch next year. Utica has a good fan base except for 2 bone head men (not students) sitting by the penalty boxes. Before the game started I was hoping for a Oz -Utica Final but once these two started I changed my mind. One guy was like a KKK leader trying to start something. Swearing at the refs is not called for. Also screaming at a EC player in the penalty box shows no class. I will Sat the EC player got the last laugh when he put up 1 finger and than 3 fingers to show what the score was. The other bone head had his blue & orange antique hockey helmet on. He was constantly complaining & sometimes swearing to the refs if a call was called against Utica or if a call was not called against EC. These games are college games and not pro games. Hopefully these two do not have children involved in sports

The first one... Maybe. The second one? No. It was a complete patient and deliberate shot that was spot on. Calling any goal a fluke in hockey is stupid in a playoff or championship game.

1st goal looked like it bounced off someone
2nd goal was a screen by the UC defenseman that picked the corner
3rd was a wicked tip -- at that point I thought that was the ballgame. WEC did not look like it was going to give up 3 goals that night.
4th was the WEC forward wanted the puck more than the UTC D
5th was and empty net with too many men on the ice that the refs missed.

UTC played well. WEC played better. We wondered if the lack of seniors in key positions may be a detriment to UTC in crunch time. I'm not saying it was, but WEC knew what it wanted to do and did it.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Let's not tip ted around it UC did not play like a team that should have won that game. They played like they were scared of the puck especially in the third when they needed to be playing all out to get back in it. If I had to watch Slowikowski just watch the punch go by him while a Eua Clair player skated by him flat footed I was going to throw up. I sure as hell hope that they have some good defensemen who can handle a puck and lead the speedy forwards with a pass (instead of the ones they were throwing last night into the the break out forwards feet) coming in next years recruiting class

+1
Fluke or not, a goal is a goal. There's always a way to stop a goal. Maybe someone made a bad decision. Maybe the goalie was being blocked by his own player. Maybe someone's positioning could've been better. Maybe the goalie made a guess and guessed wrong. Maybe someone would've been able to catch the opposing player on the breakout if they had worked a little harder in practice or spent more time in the gym. There's no such thing as a goal that was "impossible" to stop. There are some goals that are very difficult to stop, but you have to take responsibility. Sometimes the refs will miss a call, and that will sometimes benefit your team and sometimes hurt it. On the whole, it tends to even out by the end of the season.

yes the Uc dmen were not very good last night they may have been thrown off by the rink size/pressure.They backed off a lot and were no where aggressive enough,Ec also crashed the net a lot and where not punished properly.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

p.s a goal is a goal no matter what.........the better team should then account for " soft" goals and score more "good" goal to make up for them.......

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

Toto, you're not in Kansas any more...:)Your last post was right on the money and shows a lot of maturity and growth... Welcome aboard!:D

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

The weekend's results were just three more games of data to process in an objective manner, and Utica still comes out on top in the East in that regard.

As far as the FF went, Eau-Claire was clearly the best team in Placid... A very complete squad.

I have no complaints regarding any of the outcomes; the better team won every game, IMO.

Yes the season is over and EC caught the biggest Laker. Time to drag the shanty off the ice and remember how the big one got away. See you next season and maybe Lewiston ME will have more productive holes.
