Re: Utica College 2016/2017
Hotel Utica is going to become a DoubleTree by Hilton. The Days Inn is a different re-branded motel on Genesee.
Nice job, Badger, I should have mentioned that place last night.
The Hotel Utica is very well-restored and elegant. And, they offer a parents' rate for out-of-town hockey moms and dads, which -last I asked- was under $100/night.
If I was coming over for the FF weekend, I would likely stay there, walk a minute over to Gerber's for a delightful Saranac craft beer and some upscale but well-priced pub-grub, then proceed another minute by foot to The Aud for the games. Easy-peasy, and the area is safe to walk. (Try the S'mores Porter at Gerber's, if they have it on hand... Yeah, it sounds disgusting, but it's a minor miracle on the palate.)
Not to get all kumbaya here, but if UC doesn't make it (and I doubt they will, likely having to play 2 road games en-route, if they even garner a bid) I'm all about The Lakers/Hobart/Hamilton representing the East against whatever 30 YO D-1 washouts who come here from the Dairy State... I go to Wisconsin each and every year, and I love it there, but we Upstaters need to stick together on this one

.
(PS: There are some other great ethnic restaurants within a minute or two of The Aud... Try Pho Mekong on John St., and Geisha Two on Bank St. Both places are modest as far as decor, etc. goes, but both places offer exceptional Asian cuisine. There is Puerto Rican goat to be had on Mohawk St. too, and Bosnian eats on Culver Ave., not to mention quality Italian food on every corner... The one thing that really stands out about Utica is it's culinary diversity.)
