Utica College 2016/2017

Are there any other festivals, celebrations, or special-events-of-a-scheduled-nature in Utica for the Frigid Four weekend that could tighten lodging availability?

Just make that reservation now and no worries!

I don't know laker, but I am guessing the hockey will be the big event. I would love to tell you that you'll have to stay at Turning Stone Casino ( which is about 20 minutes away).

Re: Utica College 2016/2017

Just some thoughts as the excitement of frozen four builds. I've been to two in lake placid & will go again when there in 2018.. Especially fun when UC & Oswego in it back in 2013. Had a great time talking with all the fans, but the Oswego fans were particularly great because the common sentiment for both Oswego and UC fans was "if we don't win I hope you do". For those coming who may never have been here before, here's a couple links you may find interesting. Both by Rochester people but I think done about a year apart, so Rochester just a coincidence. Hope my links work.....not that tech savvy 😀

Re: Utica College 2016/2017

Hotel Utica is going to become a DoubleTree by Hilton. The Days Inn is a different re-branded motel on Genesee.

Nice job, Badger, I should have mentioned that place last night.

The Hotel Utica is very well-restored and elegant. And, they offer a parents' rate for out-of-town hockey moms and dads, which -last I asked- was under $100/night.

If I was coming over for the FF weekend, I would likely stay there, walk a minute over to Gerber's for a delightful Saranac craft beer and some upscale but well-priced pub-grub, then proceed another minute by foot to The Aud for the games. Easy-peasy, and the area is safe to walk. (Try the S'mores Porter at Gerber's, if they have it on hand... Yeah, it sounds disgusting, but it's a minor miracle on the palate.)

Not to get all kumbaya here, but if UC doesn't make it (and I doubt they will, likely having to play 2 road games en-route, if they even garner a bid) I'm all about The Lakers/Hobart/Hamilton representing the East against whatever 30 YO D-1 washouts who come here from the Dairy State... I go to Wisconsin each and every year, and I love it there, but we Upstaters need to stick together on this one :p.

(PS: There are some other great ethnic restaurants within a minute or two of The Aud... Try Pho Mekong on John St., and Geisha Two on Bank St. Both places are modest as far as decor, etc. goes, but both places offer exceptional Asian cuisine. There is Puerto Rican goat to be had on Mohawk St. too, and Bosnian eats on Culver Ave., not to mention quality Italian food on every corner... The one thing that really stands out about Utica is it's culinary diversity.)

It might have to be Turning Stone - a check online has several of the hotels mentioned here sold out....

EDIT: The internet gods have changed their minds (or operator error was corrected - you decide) - the Radisson and Hotel Utica are not available but the group between the Thruway and downtown are still open for business

I was planning to hold off and book my hotel when I have purchased my ticket early next month... you've got me nervous now...

if you go directly to the hotel sites and they are booked....try one of the booking sites like Hotels.com...they buy up blocks of rooms and they sometimes have rooms available when the hotel sites like choicehotels.com say booked.

Also when looking for hotels in the area, don't forget to look in New Hartford. The Holiday Inn is just a block or two from campus but is listed as New Hartford. Also the is another Hampton Inn in New Hartford, out by shopping and restaurants (but a bit of an easy drive from the Aud.)

They should all show up when you search Utica but toward the bottom of the list.

You know I don't think of it often ( and maybe UCbadger can chime in here) but isn't there a hotel out at Oneida county airport and also Griffiss in Rome. Each maybe 15 minutes, maybe a tad more, to aud.

Kinda surprised (pleasantly so) that hotels so booked (sorry room hunters. Best of luck to everyone looking).

Re: Utica College 2016/2017

Re: Utica College 2016/2017

If Utica area hotels are booked solid and you don't mind a 30-35 minute drive, there are hotels near the casino, not just the casino itself. There is a LaQuinta, Microtel and Fairfield Inn & Suites. All pretty close to each other, the casino, and are about a 5-10 minute drive to food and other stuff if you don't want to eat at the casino. The drive to the AUD from that area is pretty much all 4-lane highway, a pretty straight shot to Utica.

Hotel Utica and Radisson closest and definitely just a short walk. I googled the hotels on north Genesee (Fairfield, Hampton, holiday, red roof etc) and they are about a mile away. Google said 15 to 20 minute walk. Basically it's over a bridge above the railroad then go to the right on whitesboro st or oriskany st. You will come to the aud, one side or the other (if I can say that; the building is round!). Not loads of parking so many fans use side streets and such and walk a block or two or three. Swiftys on Genesee st next to Stanley theater is sports bar/restaurant & usually runs a shuttle. Go there early, have a few brews and get dropped off at the door. Celtic harp on varick st also runs shuttle. Lots or bars and stuff on varick
