USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

If Robert Morris doesn't win the CHA tournament I would guess they'd be out of the NCAA's anyways. There will only be 1 team from the CHA.

BC losing the Hockey East tournament presents a slightly different issue.....does BC get in as an "at large"? My guess is that they would, over the #3 team from the ECAC.

What if, however, neither SLU or Clarkson win the ECAC tournament, who do they pick, SLU or BC? Scary times on Chestnut Hill!

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

SLU and Clarkson need to keep winning or run the risk of not qualifing at all for the NC$$ Tourney especially if there is an upset winner in the ECAC (Colgate, Quinny or Prinny), CHA (Syr) and HE (NE or BU). I look at the ECAC in particular because there is not much difference between CCT, SLU, Cornell, Quinny, Prinny or Colgate. You could run that tournament 5 times and get 5 different winners.

I would agree the ECAC is most up for grabs, all those teams can make it or be left out if things don't go their way. I haven't taken the time to run the numbers because there are too many possibilities with the remaining regular season games, but you could probably say that for every team except WI, who likely could lose this weekend and choke in the conference tourney and still make it. It seems to me BC and UMD probably have the best chance to be in the top 4 and host, although nothing is certain or easy for them either.

my ranking for this week:

1 WI
2 UMD
3 MN (#37 is #37 in GAA )
4 StL
5 Clarkson
6 BC
7 Princeton
8 Quinnipiac
9 Cornell
10 Colgate

I think you meant save % but your point is taken.

To me she has looked more comfortable and solid since being benched, but there is the goal late second period on Friday night. What are we going to see the rest of the year is the key question!

Arlan in today's Wednesday Women gives an opinion:
At the start of the NCAA era, teams could contend with goaltenders who were good or maybe just OK. I don’t think that’s true anymore. Now, if a team’s goaltender is not, at a minimum, very good, then it isn’t going to be a factor in March.

The really soft goals have been an issue all season long. I don't have confidence that she has the confidence needed to be a factor come playoff time.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

1 Wisconsin - 1-1 Shootout win and 0-0 shootout loss against #2 keep them at #1
2 Minnesota - 1-1 Shootout loss and 0-0 shootout win against #1 move them up a spot
3 Minnesota Duluth - 2 wins but Minny more impressive drops them by 1
4 Clarkson - Beat Colgate by 3, Gut check comeback from 3-1 down at Cornell to win in OT gets them the last home ice spot
5 St. Lawrence - Tie at Cornell and shutout of Colgate move them up 1
6 Boston College - Split with Providence, need I say more
7 Cornell - Tie with SLU and OT loss to Clarkson keeps them here
8 Princeton - 2 wins keep them here
9 Quinnipiac - They can play defense (25 SOG allowed and 0 goals in 2 games) and shoot the puck but can they score (57 SOG/5 Goals, 50 SOG/1 Goal this weekend)
10 Northeastern - Gets smoked by BU 7-2 but did beat BC the week before, just no one else to put here that is better.

Others
Robert Morris loss on home ice to Penn State drops them to the others catagory
Colgate - losses to Clarkson and SLU by 8-2 total goals keeps them on the outside looking in
BU - Could make some noise in the HE playoffs but too inconsistent to crack the top 10 (the North Dakota of Eastern Hockey)

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

1) Wisconsin - If someone is going to beat this team in the postseason, it's going to take great goaltending and a couple of breaks. No one can roll four lines like Wisconsin. They just wear you down.
2) UMD - They are here based on being the only team to beat Minnesota twice this year. Honestly 2, 3 and 4 in the poll seem very, very close.
3) Clarkson - Good weekend for them and still only have 4 losses puts them here over Minnesota.
4) Minnesota - Things like goaltending and secondary scoring that were problematic have, for the most part, improved which helps their chances in the postseason.
5) St Lawrence - They are part of a mix of some very good teams that will make the ECAC tournament most interesting.
6) BC - Split with Providence not helpful for postseason positioning but getting back to a healthy defensive rotation is more important.
7) Princeton - The old Raiders mantra...Just win, baby.
8) Cornell - On the one hand not a good weekend but on the other, not a bad weekend
9) Quinnipiac - Still a bit puzzled that this team hasn't been better than this far down the poll.
10) Northeastern - Pasted by BU, yes, but overall more consistent than BU.

And you know what would make the NCAA deliriously happy? If someone not on this list won the WCHA tourney. They could send winner to Madison & UM to Duluth and save a bunch of money.
