USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

Totally agree, but I'm afraid too many people are too bi-opic. If the Olympic Womens Ice Hockey continues to be a exclusive contest between Canada and the USA, then it won't be long before some other 'more competitive' winter sport gets the nod from the Olympic Organising Committee, and Womens ice Hockey gets turfed out.

Sure hope this would ever come to pass, as it would deal a huge setback in the continued development of women's hockey at the highest level, which would inevitably filter down to lower levels. Should Women's Olympics cease to exist there would be no motivation for players to continue their intense physical training and to improve their skill development after completing their college eligibility. Right now, the Olympics is the ultimate dream for women hockey players. Take that ultimate prize away, and the whole sport all the way down would suffer negative consequences.

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

North Dakota vs Lindenwood... an ugly split. Top of the WCHA showing some blemishes the last couple of weeks.

Anyone up for some banter during the break? Has the ECAC caught up? I thought the WCHA was the stronger conference, but after looking at it this way, I've changed my mind. Here are the match-ups, and yes, a couple could be argued in a different order:

Wisc vs Clarkson
Minn vs SLU
UMD vs Quinnipiac
UND vs Colgate
BSU vs Cornell
OSU vs Princeton
St Cloud vs Yale
MSU vs RPI
(ECAC Harvard, Dartmouth, Brown, Union would need to be left out of this tourney)

I think if the top 4 matched up, it's a 2-2 split, and then ECAC goes 4-0 in the next grouping. You?

Hard to say for sure...and have no motivation to search for hard facts on the topic. Yet I am of the belief that the top of the WCHA (in general) is still tops in the country (UW, MN, UMD (?)). The upper Midwest has top tier talent coming out of high schools. Based on intangibles, the ECAC doesn't quite have the head to head nor the NCs. Until that happens reliably, I think one has to go with the status quo.

After that, it gets more difficult. This IMO is because the next tier programs like UND and BSU have been built to counter the top WCHA teams. So between play style and emotion, UND/BSU are well positioned for games against these top tier teams. However, they remain questionable as day in day out teams.

The problem, of course, is that you are matching up the bottom four teams in the WCHA against teams that are not the bottom four in the ECAC. It makes this approach worthless.

that was my thought as well, the only true comparison would be to have inter-league play between all teams and see how it shakes out.
until them, we have the NCAA tourney

if people want to match up WCHA #1 against ECAC #4
#2 against #3
#3 against #2
and #4 against #1 to see who makes it to the NCAA tourney, I'd be for it

I'll play along. I agree with 5mn_Major. I also think UND and BSU are built to play against Minnesota and Wisconsin. And Eeyore's point is well taken, our last place team is playing their 5th to last place team. That just gives us an excuse on the off chance we lose :D

I can see PuckRush's faith in the ECAC, but I still think the WCHA prevails. I have the WCHA 3-1 in the top half and 3-1 in the bottom half. But one must tell UND that this is the WCHA vs ECAC tournament and not just a regular OOC game or they won't get properly fired up for the game and they won't try hard.

It would be really fun if they did it.

Swap out the 5 through 8 with 9 through 12 and it wouldn't matter. UMD barely got by 9th place Harvard and Mankato just lost to 12th place Union.

You should probably add Hockey East to the discussion. I believe the WCHA finished .500 this year against Hockey East, including a split with the 9th place HE team.

You are easily the best poster on this forum.

I suppose if your league has only won the championship once you have to start dreaming up other ways to feel that you've accomplished something.

how about if you throw out all goals scored between 2 minutes after the second period starts and 3 minutes before the end of the third, does that change the balance of power?

No?

I guess we should expect this from you easterners, it mirrors what happened with the election, you lose by the rules, so you go to great lengths dreaming up other ways to win.
Just like the Wisconsin recount, you are even bigger losers.

Speaking of Wisconsin...When the dreaming doesn't work, this happens...:)

LOL, if I were her neighbor I'd have a tape of that and play it over my 150 watt audio system whenever I knew she was home, especially when she has guests

man, I sure hope that U of MN professor teaches something other than History or Political Science, obviously not his area of expertise

so what does this have to do with hockey?
after all these people move to Canada, it will dilute the gene pool and maybe we can win Olympic gold

Re: USCHO Poster's Poll: '16-'17

anybody else get emails trying to change your vote in this last weeks poll from WI #1 and MN #2 to Clarkson #1 and SLU #2??
I also got a few threatening emails, and others calling me elitist for voting for WCHA teams.
a bunch of women emailed me: SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

I did too, but I thought I was the only one. I'm going to have to change my email address now. WI swept Clarkson but they still demand to put Clarkson ahead of UW. These people just can't accept reality. Sound familiar?
