He isn't alone. I had to listen to a lot of them in college (recording school). I cannot begin to describe how much I hate them.

Unless someone else is playing their songs. Then I usually dig them.

I'm just over them, for the most part. But then, I'm pretty much over all classic rock. There's only so many times you can listen to Black Dog.

Messthetics. Very strong -- two guys from Fugazi who play jazz / punk now. As cool as you would imagine. What if Robert Fripp joined Slint.

Sitting in a Starbucks writing a literature review, and they've got the 90s Alternative station playing. I've heard The Breeders, Nirvana, and Portishead in the last 15 minutes.

Two thoughts are running through my head:

A: This is awesome, because I don't even need Spotify today.

B. JESUS, I'M OLD.

My thought after reading your post:

Jesus, you're young.

In a good way. :)

Except for B, my reaction whenever I'd go to my favorite brewpub, and they'd have the 80's Sirius channel playing. Nothing beats having a couple beers, and then out of the blue you hear Julian Cope.

Well, except for A also, because I don't do streaming.

Jesus, I'm old.

Personally I think the ubiquity of 80s music in public venues like hockey barns is a very bad sign. When the Islanders were winning Stanley Cups we weren't playing Glenn Miller and the Andrews Sisters.

Come on, kiddies! Grab the baton from these failing, palsied hands.
