Earth, Wind, and Fire.

"September" is so good.

I could listen to this all day.

Using a chord progression written by Earth, Wind & Fire guitarist Al McKay, vocalist Maurice White and songwriter Allee Willis wrote the song over one month. Willis was initially bothered by the gibberish "ba-dee-ya" lyric White used through the song, and begged him to rewrite it: "I just said, 'What the fuck does 'ba-dee-ya' mean?' And he essentially said, 'Who the fuck cares?' I learned my greatest lesson ever in songwriting from him, which was never let the lyric get in the way of the groove."
.

Listening to "Joanne" and songs like "Shallow" and "Always Remember Us This Way" by Gaga have me appreciating her depth.

"A Million Reasons" makes me cry.

OMG. I've been looking for this for years. I've probably got it on an old VHS tape sitting around somewhere, and it used to be on Youtube way back in the day, but hasn't been there for a long time. Found it in a compilation of a bunch of their TV appearances. This blew me away the first time I saw it way back on 120 Minutes.

Catherine Wheel, doing a ten minute noisefest version of Black Metallic.

TIL the guy who named Genesis, Jonathan King, was sentenced to seven years in prison for having sexually assaulted five boys, aged 14 and 15.

I listen to this about twice a year. Between the iconic photo, the lyrics, and her voice, maybe it really is the greatest rock and roll song of all time.

RSD release of the day for me is Voivod’s “Angel Rat”, originally released in 1991.

Originally a thrash band with lyrical nods to William Gibson, and other science fiction writers, they slowed down a bit for this one and enlisted Terry Brown (famous for producing a zillion Rush albums) as producer. The result was an album that alienated their hardcore thrash fans but was a joy for those in the fan base who loved Pink Floyd, Jane’s Addiction and Rush.
