Huh...

Well, upon further listens the new Sleater-Kinney songs are ear worms:

They're insufferable but my god in her day (15 years ago) Carrie Brownstein was the Platonic ideal of the magic pixie girl. She was every girl I dated in college if you made them just a shade cuter and a hundred times more self-promoting.

😀

I know St. Vincent derailed them from rock music and David Byrne derailed St. Vincent from being almost a Bowie jr. so...I blame David Byrne for all of the odd turns of both bands!🤣

If you're gonna blame David Byrne you should blame his spirit animal, Brian Eno.

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Mama Wendy, my best Mama friend, asked me last year to bring "upbeat and calming" music to Out On the Lakeshore, the local LGBT resource center. Since then, I've been listening to exactly that type of music. Lots more Norah Jones, Sara Bareilles, P!nk, Ingrid Michaelson, Cloud Cult, The Shins, etc. Helped bring a change in my attitude, going from usually sad and depressed to pretty f-cking happy.

And part of my transition is the attitude of "f-ck you, I won't do what you tell me." With that in mind, I'm not ashamed to say I've been singing along with Fall Out Boy, P!nk, Boyz II Men, all the pop I grew up with in the 1990s, etc.

How did you miss this? It's literally right in the lyrics. ;) :D

Was on a bit of a nostalgia kick for a while with The Meters, The Sweet, Edgar Winter and Robin Trower, then weirdly transitioned into Finnish hillbillies Steve N Seagulls covering AC/DC.

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Lately it's been some from The Style Council, Squeeze, Elvis Costello, XTC, Joe Jackson, Boomtown Rats...

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

I have catching up to do.

One of my fave rebellious songs is "Skunx" by Lars Frederiksen And The Bast*ds (yes, the Lars from Rancid). One poignant line:
With another victory I bashed right under the sun
My war was over but a new one has begun

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Today, just a steady diet of Norah, P!nk, Sara, Ingrid, and I'm closing the night with Portishead (Beth) and Mazzy (Hope).
