Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Listening to Catherine Wheel (all of it) for the first time today.

Enjoying the guitar work and the density of the sound. Will take more time to decide if I like the vocals/lyrics/song structures.

So far, so good though - 20 songs in.

Liking it.

For Christmas music...

Last night while decorating, I heard albums by:

John Prine
Jorma Kaukonen
John Denver (Rocky Mt. Xmas)

All major favorites of mine.

I haven't heard a ton of their stuff, and so can't really judge. Most didn't really grab me, but I luv luv luv Black Metallic. "it's the color of your skin...................."

Yeah, can see making a 20-30 song list out of the maybe 80 songs that they have.

I believe that I heard a song by them on 120 minutes the other night... "I Want to Touch You." Liked it enough to check out more.

Martin Stephenson & the Daintees - Salutation Road

This is their only album I currently have. Used to have his (their) first 4 on vinyl, but must have sold them back in college or maybe the ex ended up with them as she is the one who got me into them. One thing's for sure, haven't seen em (or her) in over 20 years.

Gonna pick em up on iTunes after I get gift cards for Xmas - I always get iTunes cards, which is fine by me. :)

Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris - All the Roadrunning

LOVE this album.

Can take or leave either of their solo careers, but this collaboration works really well for me.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Indubious - all of it on shuffle.

Dubby-reggae-electronic-trance-funk.

Love these guys. Grooving in the front seat with a big smile as I wait an hour for my kid at his music.

People must think I'm high. :D

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

There are songs on that album that I really like and others I just can't find interesting. While that's true for most albums out there, this one is a huge swing in degrees.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Just heard "Got Nuffin" from Spoon. Love it. One of the very few bands where I think I like everything they've done.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Spoon is iffy to me. Pretty basic riffage, with melody lines and lyrics that sometimes work, and at other times are just painful. When they come up with memorable melodies to go along with those riffs, it's great, like Don't You Evah, Mystery Zone, or Do You. Other times, the melody is just so bad, to me it's unlistenable. Examples like Written in Reverse or I Turn My Camera On. Then again, I haven't really heard much other than from the radio.

"I'm writin' this to you in reverse. Someone better call a hearse." Ughhhhhh. Dreadful.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Just found out that Trip Shakespeare's first two albums have been reissued with bonus tracks.

I don't hear any difference in the sound of Applehead Man, which always sounded muddy to me, so I don't believe they were remastered in any way. Are You Shakespearienced? always sounded great, so no need there.

I'm most excited to have gotten Fool of the Wicked Kind, a song that was always a treat live. I have it on several shows, but this sounds like a studio version.

Here's a video of the song in question featuring the band as I remember them - in some bar where I saw them 15-20 times in the late 80s, early 90s. Check out John's shorts! :D

Such a cool song.

There was talk of an album of out takes and demos after they broke up, but reportedly A & M crushed the project. Glad to see the songs finding the light of day.

At the time, one of my absolute favorite bands.

"Do you remember? Do you recall?"

:)

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Watching that video, you can't think of anything but the early 90's. The clothes, the hair, and the sound, they all fit.
