Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Great find. Heard of them, but never seemed to find the time to "do the research".

They're (Die Kreuzen) well worth the time to investigate. Started out Hardcore (self-titled LP), made an immediate left turn on LP2 (October File) to a slower grunge-y style with an undercurrent of new wave in the bass playing, then made another drastic left turn on LP3 (Century Days) to a poppier alt-sound that was sort of a precursor to Jane's Addiction, and the final LP was sort of a cross over metal/indie rock sound. Everything they did sounded ahead of it's time because each guy in the band had a unique style...It made them groundbreakers but also meant they couldn't break into the mainstream because they always sounded 3-4 years ahead of whatever trend was happening.

Butch Vig recorded 3 of their albums...

They influenced Soundgarden, Sonic Youth and Voivod heavily. Most of the seattle scene loved them. Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl name-dropped die kreuzen, and during the reunion show in Minneapolis Mark Arm from Mudhoney was transfixed at the front of the stage for the entirety of die kreuzen's set.

I guess they've come to be known as a musicians band.

In an alternate universe they would have agreed to the opening slot on the Voivod/Soundgarden tour of 1989 and they'd have exploded into the greater consciousness...but here, they turned it down and the rest is history.

I heard "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp this AM. Been forever since I heard that song.

That's all I have.

It won't be long enough the next time I hear it on the radio, as far as I'm concerned.

The new Garth Brooks album is surprisingly not terrible. I had very low expectations after hearing the debut single, but it turns out that it is one of the worst 2 or 3 songs on the album, and there are 4 or 5 that are quite good. I especially like Man Against Machine (did not like this one live), She's Tired of Boys (inverse of That Summer), Cold Like That, Mom (holy crap, tear jerker), and Midnight Train.

Breakfast in America was in the first batch of cassettes I ever got with Columbia House along with Boston, Dirty Deeds, Live at Budukon, and that's about what I remember without having to guess. For instance I'm positive that batch had a Police cassette, but I can't be sure if it was Ghost in the Machine, Zenyatta Mondata or Regatta De Blanc.

Yep. I once read an article in which the author referred to both, and made the comment on similarities, including "every song is an anthem." Pretty accurate, I always thought.

No surprise that the U2 heavies on the board that I occasionally go to hated every moment sans Bono.

The Movement - Beneath the Palms

Acoustic (live) album that came out last week.

Enjoying it. One of my favorite Sublime-type bands.

Reminds me of Pearl Jam still in their prime opening for Tom Petty. Every lyric of every song was chanted in full the entire evening.

The New Standards - 2011 Christmas show.

I wish, wish, WISH that this show would come to Madison. Rochester (MN) is the closest.

So good. :)

Putting lights on the tree.

Zeppelin III

Probably my favorite of their albums.

U2 Tickets on sale on Monday.

Probably zero chance that I actually get through, but wonder what the price will be. Two shows at the United Center next June and I believe those might be the only midwestern shows.

This looks like a job for Gurtholfin.

http://money.cnn.com/2014/12/04/technology/apple-ipod-trial/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Between 2007 and 2009, Apple routinely deleted music off of some customers' iPods without telling them...

When iPod customers downloaded music from iTunes rivals, Apple (AAPL, Tech30) would force customers to reset their iPods, the attorney said. When the iPod was restored, the music they downloaded from competitors' music stores would no longer be on their iPods...

The plaintiffs attorneys have encountered a major hiccup in their $350 million class action lawsuit against Apple. At issue is whether the two plaintiffs representing the class of 8 million iPod purchasers from 2006-2009 are valid plaintiffs...

It's a very fluid situation and things could could change, but attorneys representing Apple are going to be filing a Rule 50 motion Thursday, essentially arguing that the case be thrown out. It's now up to the plaintiffs' lawyers to prove they have a valid plaintiff.

Screw Apple.

In other news, was able to get two tickets for one of the Chicago U2 shows through a pre-sale. Got shut out on the other.

Will need tix to both as the wife and the boy both want to go and the ticket limit was 2.

Lucky me, I'll get to go to both and it appears that they will be doing different shows each night - according to their press release.
