Gram Parsons mix: International Submarine Band, Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and his solo albums on shuffle.

Been a long time...

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Listened to the new Interpol album a couple of times now. A few tracks stand out, but this one will require further listening.

I see they are coming to Milwaukee. The boy likes them and I've asked him if he wants to go.

Told him to watch this video to see if he's interested:

You probably already have it if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch.

It's on all of our devices. The little one just walked by and was playing it on his Touch. I've only downloaded it to this computer so far.

Yeah, found it. Haven't listened yet but I plan too soon.

It's not weightlifting music, that's for sure. I liked it, didn't love it. Three or four songs caught my attention, but most of it felt sort of generic to me.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

That sums up U2's entire existence, no?

I'm not their biggest fan by any means, other than this album I have two others - a greatest hits and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (received as a gift) - but I wouldn't call them generic. At least not entirely.

There's nothing generic about Boy, Unforgettable Fire, Achtung Baby or Zooropa for example, but I understand taste isn't for everyone. ;)

More precisely you'd have a hard time naming even one other band that I'd agree sounds anything like U2.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

The Lions - This Generation
Ikahba - Troddin to Zion
Mystic Roots - Constant Struggle

Enjoying the grooves :), but somehow the reggae isn't making this day any less grey or chilly.

Stocking up on generics...

U2 are planning to release TWO more albums before 2016 - after shock free record
Closest pal Dave Fanning knows they have more material in the bag
Sep 11, 2014 | 16:17 / Updated: Sep 11, 2014 | 16:17

U2 are set to release another TWO albums over the next 18 months, their best friend has revealed.
Close confidant Dave Fanning said he believes Songs Of Innocence is the first in a three-part series of albums in which they explore the 70s, 80s and 90s.
It comes after the Dublin rockers released their last record – their first in five years – for free to half a billion iTunes users with Apple paying the bill.
And Dave, who got the first play of the record on 2FM, said: “I think this is the first of three U2 albums.

More to come: Dave knows U2 aren’t finished | VIPIRELAND.COM
“I’m guessing that, because every single track on Songs Of Innocence is about the 1970s.
“I think there will be more ‘Songs of…’ dealing with later decades, and the life experience of U2, right up to the present day.”
Last year Bono said they were “working on three albums”, adding: “We haven’t decided what order to put them out.”
And Dave, 58, said that given the length of time between albums there is no reason they won’t have the material.

More material: Dave knows this won’t be the end for U2 | VIPIRELAND.COM
“I think U2 have loads of songs. There will be more albums. I’d say U2 will drop a few albums in the next eighteen months,” he told the Irish Sun.
“The theme is almost a mid-life crisis for Bono but he hasn’t tried anything ground breaking. What he has done is gone back to the start which is brilliant. The songs are very personal to Bono.”

My guess is that "Songs of Experience" will either come out at Christmas or next spring to build momentum for the start of the world tour next summer.

SS - maybe you'll have a chance to see them in your new country of residence:

I for one would think that it would be really cool to see a show of this caliber in a foreign country. See how the locals experience it. Based on the U2 concert recordings I have from around the world, oftentimes the crowds are more engaged and passionate in parts of Europe and especially in South America. Manilla could be fun.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Gurt, thanks for the heads up. Once I have time I'll be looking at possible shows for U2, Interpol, Foo Fighters and Van Halen among others.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

I have no plans for tonight (long run in the morning). So, I grabbed a bunch of CDs from the upstairs player and brought them downstairs without looking. Looks like I grabbed:

Interpol- Turn on the Bright Lights
Interpol- Antics
Interpol- Our Love to Admire
The National- Alligator
REM- Out of Time
Iron & Wine- The Shepherd's Dog

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Was at Church last night. Best show going right now, hands down, and not even close.

Here's the setlist:
The Outsiders
Creepin'
Guys Like Me
Carolina
I'm Gettin' Stoned
Talladega
Pledge Allegiance to the Hag
Drink in My Hand
Two Pink Lines
Sinners Like Me
Cold One
That's **** Rock and Roll
Give Me Back My Hometown
Homeboy
Dark Side
Devil, Devil
Country Music Jesus
Smoke A Little Smoke
Over When Its Over
Wrecking Ball
These Boots
Springsteen (w/ Born to Run memory/melody portion)

Encore: Lightning (Acoustic)

That's my 5th Church show, and if anything, he just keeps topping himself.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Ozzy - Diary of a Madman (Legacy Edition)

Listening to disc 2 which is live recordings from the Blizzard of Oz Tour. Smokin' and better than Tribute imo.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

After some more listens, I've concluded that I don't love the new U2 album. It's over-produced and... I don't know, so much of it sounds like so many other U2 songs. It's not that it's generic, in that I don't think it sounds like everyone else's music like is the case for so much pop music, but it sounds like THEM. It's listenable, and all the songs will go just fine in a shuffled playlist of U2 songs, but I don't know that I'm ever going to say "I really want to listen to Songs Of Innocence" like I might say "I really want to listen to the Joshua Tree." I guess that's OK, especially since, as you may have heard, I didn't pay anything for it.

Re: USCHO Music Thread 2: Rock On, Amigo.

Cheap Trick is playing at a casino near me in October. I told my wife we gotta go but tickets are $144? That's insane. Of the classic lineup it's Zander and Nielsen (I was shocked to learn that Nielsen started his first band in 1961). They have apparently been together and releasing new material, not just retread of Surrender, continuously, and still even chart in Japan which I find adorable.

Bun E. Carlos is no longer with the band but his custom coffee brand is doing well.
